Is this a bargain or am i being ripped off?

Today I went to a gameshop that sells retro games as well Nintendo Switch stuff and other things.

So I sold one of my GameBoy Advance games this was mainly because I had two of the same

and the guy tells me if I wanted it in cash after selling it I would get 34 pounds ( or about 46 dollars if you're lucky ) but the guy went onto telling me that if I had the boxed copy of the game it would be about 113 pounds ( essentially about 156 dollars )

Since I didn't have the boxed copy of the game I decided to get what the unboxed copy was worth.

I would like to know what you think.

Yes it's a bargain 6
No it's not a bargain you are being ripped off 3

It used to be quite easy for game shops especially at my local one to have them sell fake copies but I think these days I think they stopped probably due to the fact of how people were likely getting scammed.

Nowadays it's hard to sell fakes due to gameshops hiring authenticators.

You'll see the fake copies more on eBay being sold dirt cheap.

    The game was Pokemon Emerald.

Before I sold it I had to make sure I had rescued all of my level 100s and and all of my event Pokemon on it before I completely erased my save file.

That game along with the other mainline Generation 3 games can easily be faked apparently there are a ton of fakes out there.

Depends on the game, sometimes boxed copies are rare and there’s a higher price differential.

No, it's not a bargain. I used to (and still do in a small way) sell video games and consoles online, and I tell you now that he would have known exactly how much you could sell that game for, and you sold it in an inefficient way.

You didn't get ripped off, but you probably would have made quite a bit more money selling it on ebay.

I'm not sure on if the price was in fact scammy, but I can confirm that gaming stuff sells better if you have the original box. Especially if you kept the box in good condition.

I agree next time if I have the original box of old retro games I'd imagine I'd get more money.

Yes, you'll never get a 'bargain' buying or selling at a gameshop. They're there to make money, nothing against that, but just know it going into the deal.

You'd be lucky to get 10$ for the boxed copy where I live.
