Is there such thing as a "female player"?

Yes. They're called sluts.

Female players are not really the same as a slut. A slut is just a girl who is promiscuous. A player is someone who has multiple partners, sexual usually, and makes most of them believe they are the only one they're seeing. They play the field, the game is to lure the other person in and once they've got them, use them for whatever reason (money, sex, attention -- always under the ruse of there being a possibility for a relationship/commitment). Some players will chase someone until they sleep with them and then completely cut them off, not texting/calling and just completely ignoring them. Others will continue the fling until they know they've got to make a commitment or they're found out. If the other person is naive/has low self esteem, they'll continue to accept the player's apologies and believe them when they say they're the only one for them, and then continue to get their hearts broken. It's all a game. The player usually has low self esteem but it will be hard to tell by their outward appearance. They can seem to have a lot of confidence, know all the right words and moves, but really they're seeking approval by attracting as many people as they can, never committing or letting anyone get too close because they're afraid the person won't like who they really are. It is extremely destructive behavior for both sides.

Yeah, "female players" are called whores, and men are just called players... for guys its way less offensive though.

I know i'm gonna atract a lot of haters with this (*cough8sluts*cough) but ... here's how things are.
First, I'd like to get your attention on the subject of rapes ... women get raped, not men. why ? because raping is an act against one's will, using force, etc. etc. so, it means that the woman has to agree to have sex, otherwise it is concidered illegal, Fact (I agree)!
So even if a man is a "player", it all comes down to wether or not you women want to have sex with the "player". If you decide to let him in, he scores another time, and if you don't but he does it anyways - he's a rapist.

Having said all the above. No matter what a "PLAYER" a man is, he doesn't get laid just because and when he wants. It actually comes down to whether or not YOU WOMEN want to get laid. SOOOOOOOOO, men actually work on it, to get laid, while women just choose. IF you're a man in the category described as "player", then you are a man who really knows how to get chosen by women! While IF you are a woman in the category described as "slut", that means that you most certainly have no respect for yourself as a woman (the one, that actually has the power to control sex), and sleeping with a lot of guys just makes you cheap,easy pray.

ofcourse there are other cases, such as Bieber, which can't be predefined, but ... my theory works for stereotypes :D

They should be but obviously people will always find a degrading word for women instead. I also find it amusing how guys who do it are praised and women frowned upon.

I don't call men who sleep around players, i call them man whores :) i agree with bijpop's comment on players, to me a slut is a man or woman who is willing to sleep with anyone.

It's not hard for a good looking girl to get guys to sleep with her...girls have more to lose. but i'd call you a player if you were an ugly girl and got a lot of hot guys ;)

But my own opinion, i think its rather the girls themselves that call each other slut. Girls are fucking bitches, remember that (i'm a girl meself)
And well for the rest... it's your own choice if the person is worth it to have sex with or any thing in that direction. And after that comes: are you gonna brag it around like a 'slut'? To me that also is a key to calling someone a slut. I mean you can rumble around with a few guys here and there, no prob but bashing it around is an other thing.
So, it doesnt have to be, you dont have to be a slut but its rather the way you take it and make it.
