Is there anything scarier than getting chased by a dog while on a bike?

Got chased by a dog on my way home recently while on my bike, and lemme tell you,it is one of the worst feelings trying to outrun something determined to eat you!! Anyone have any advice on finding yourself in that situation that might help me next time?

  • I love it when I sneak away from my dog and when I get far enough away I scream like a little girl and start running as fast as I can. He chases after me like a war attack dog. Good adrenaline rush

Ive been a big jogger all my life. Been attacked and chased by many dogs. Once had to fight a dog off and punched him in the face repeatedly. Eventually he bit my fist in the air and the impact of my punching him landing on his teeth fractured the bone. I have many stories about this man. Your best bet is to carry pepper spray though. In my neck of the woods people let their pitbulls rome free. If you have to fight back. If they latch on the only thing you can do is punch. One arm is usually free. Also pick something up and let them bite that instead. If you find a long stick they will attack the stick. You can also usually pick them up and slam them if they latch onto your arm.

Yes!, get chased, taken down and mawlled by a dog(s). To me that would be more scarrier then just being chased by a dog(s).

Honestly it annoys me when people leave their animals unsupervised. It usually leads to either the animal getting hurt or the animal hurting someone else. Next time, bring something to defend yourself. I love animals, but better the animal get hurt than you.

Not in a bike thankfully, but in a car, luckily it wasnt a deadly black widow, just a random spider and i shook it off a window. But I dread to think it could happen so always make sure before starting my bike.

I usually out pedal the dog.
But, haven't actually been chased much.
We have pretty strict animal control laws.

They should have them everywhere! I've only been chased by smaller dogs so far...but fear the day it might be a doberman!!

        I wouldnt worry much.
Smaller dogs are more likely to bite.
They seem to have an inferiority complex.
        Big dogs do not.
A doberman won't come after you, unless trained to.

  • Sounds exciting, and maybe a bit fun. I'm bored, so..

  • I don't know why but I'm truly terrified of dogs. I've always kept the more aggressive breeds as pets like wolves, pit bulls and rottweilers, I suppose for protection.

I'm not the pansy type though. I catch gators by hand and did boxing when I was younger.

But a dog? I would run to hide behind my grandmother if one was chasing me. Snakes too. Even baby green snakes. They just terrify me for some reason.

Lift up your legs! One time, a pack of stray dogs almost got my foot while riding my bike. I felt their teeth touching my skin, but it was not powerful enough for a bite. I quickly lifted my leg in the air and rode as fast as I could. That was one horrendous experience.

    • How do you pedal away if your legs are up?

      • CoffeeTime

In my case, when the dogs started to bark and chase, I got alerted and started to pedal as fast as I could and then held my legs in air for a while. When they slowed down, I pedalled away quickly.

do you know what breed of dog it was or something close? I am going to assume it wasn't a Pomeranian.
The thing about dogs is if they are out on the loose, they will likely try to attack someone or something. The only question is, who or what? Some, like my dog, are not likely to attack humans as it knows it would likely end up dead (he is 50 pounds but just cannot fight)

But yes, pepper spray, some sort of blade, and maybe carry one of those bike clubs. Link to the kind that might be best is below.

You know, dogs are kind of like ringtones, loud car stereos, cell phones, and fancy cars. The only person who is impressed is the owner.

    • Thank you so much! Not sure what kind it was though..when it came tearing out of the dark it sounded big like a rottweiler, but it turned out to be about 20 pounds! It still had me pedalling though, did'nt want to end up dog food.

Yeah, when you hear something like that, you go into panic mode regardless.

Gt this though - in warm weather there is this one neighborhood I walk through in the morning basically just to enjoy the weather.
One of the houses though there is some little old lady living therr and she has these two tiny-ass dogs, I want to say Maltese, but they sense me walking by and run, I mean RUN up to the fence going absolutely batshit crazy!

In such a case it is funny but hearing something that sounds like a rott, not so much
