Is there a way for me to make a complaint against the suicide hotline

Ok, I called the suicide hotline today and they hung up on me while i was in the middle of talking, she kept cutting across me saying "take care" and "stay safe" and then *click*. im definitely sure that they are not supposed to do that.

Feeling Suicidal?
We couldn't help but notice that you might be asking about things related to suicide...
If that's not the case, please ignore this message.
But, if that is the case, please, please, please call this hotline and talk to someone about it. Or, visit one of these websites and get some help.
Unfortunately IIN isn't the best place for you to be asking about this. Check out the above websites or call one of the hotlines instead. They can help. Really. We know what we're talking about. Call. Do it. Please.
Remember that everything gets better with time.
Help us keep this site organized and clean. Thanks!

Call again and say your suicidal because their service is so bad.

Please try another place. If you were calling there was a reason why and it has not been resolved.

If you're still feeling bad, call back and try talking to somebody else. You can tell them what's happened and ask what the complaints procedure is. You deserve the help as much as anybody else.

Years back I complained about two different "counsellors" (volunteers and obviously not well trained) who did the same type of thing to me on a crisis line. In one case I couldn't remember what time the call was so was told they didn't know who I'd been talking with and the second time I received a letter of apology.

I would think the line you called would have an administrative office, try googling it and give them your feedback.

Just for some background info, in one call my mobile was about to go flat and I asked them to call me back: I was told to go to a public phone box and call in again. Yeah right, at 2 am way out in the country with the phone box miles away, middle of winter and I had no car! In the other call, I was told without warning that unless I was suicidal the call would be terminated because they had a time limit on non suicide calls. It was a crisis line not specifically a suicide line.

Oh I just remembered, I did once call a specific suicide line and was told they only dealt with people who were about to kill themselves, not people contemplating or planning it: bit late to call when you've actually done it! I complained about that one too and was told the "counsellor" was incorrect.

Do you call a lot? Suicide hotlines have to triage and are often short staffed.

Were you listening to what they were saying or were you too distraught?

I've had this happen and in hindsight realized that someone else was a much higher priority. While it sucks, it has to happen in certain circumstances. Maybe they had someone on hold in more dire need.
