Is the stereotype of humour in your country accurate?

I often see stereotypes regarding humour and how different countries are associated with certain forms of humour (e.g. some countries are known for their satire, whilst others are known for liking slapstick). What are the types of humour which your country has a reputation for having and how accurate do you think this is? Also, does this differ with people online to people you meet in real life?

I think it's a load of old tosh. Humour isn't a country thing it's an individual thing.

America is a melting pot of humor, with a lot of pot seasoning. I imagine other countries think or humor is mean, stupid, tasteless and stoned.

I think mine is somewhat accurate for some parts of our country.

I like in the US. Yes, it's a statistical truth that most Americans are fat, a lot of Americans are stupidly patriotic and a lot of Americans don't care about education. Lazy though? No, in fact, worker productivity among Americans has risen sharply over the years, while wages have remained stagnant.

However, it all depends on the area in which you live. In the more conservative states, it's true you'll find a lot of bible-thumpers and extreme conservatives. Here in California, though, the Obesity rate is rather low, and even the Republicans are liberal.

So the stereotype for the US has varying degrees of accuracy wherever you go.

depends on where in Italy you are , most italian stereotypes
are those of a loud mothed southern italian with rigorus hand gestures and an exagerated accent, that fist one is verry un accurate even in the south. most notherns (like me) are verry different. but if the stereotype is for italian men, saing that they are perverted mama's boys I would say that is quite accurate.

Well it was originally was for my country.

In the early days the country was a largely agricultural based economy hence majority people working on the land but now 3/4 of the people live in urbanised areas of the country.

But yeah agricultural does still play a fair size of our economic GDP and yes those evil sheep still far outnumber us by the millions.

    I'm fearing a sheep revolution :*(

You just reminded me of the movie Black Sheep. Not the Chris Farley one, the one about zombies. That type of revolution would make me cry.

I they're semi-accurate. But when discussing another country's sense of humour, what most people focus on is how that country's sense of humour differs from their own as opposed to the whole picture (including what is the same). Therefore one country's stereotype of my country's humour would be different than someone else's. All based on their own sense of humour, not mine.

I think British humour has a reputation for being caustic and that's definitely part of it but only a part of it. One weird thing I notice is that I moderate my humour here even to other Brits. I treat everyone as a world citizen whereas if I met British/Irish IINers in person, I'd deal with them differently.

I think it's accurate if it's not offensive or racist.

For instance, if you call an Irish as "Paddy" i think he/she is going to be offended. Maybe a modern German would be offended as well if you call him "Nazi" or robotic.

A Greek probably would be really offended if you keep telling them they invented homosexuality and zoophilia, having sex with goats.

A Canadian could be hurt if ou keep calling him "lumberjack" or beaver fu.ker.

So, if stereotypes are insulting and offensive they are not cool heh.
