Is the band the civil wars country or hipster music?!

At my work all they play is coffee house hipster music that I can't stand! They play a song called "Barton Hallow" by The Civil Wars ALL...THE...TIME. I really like country, and they sound a like country, but I don't like something about their music.

Is The Civile Wars

Country or Hipster? I can't tell!

Country! 5
Hipster! 26
I can' tell either! 13

I think that you are confusing hipsters with indie.

It's a huge hipster trend for a long time -making their own version of country and folk music. I don't think it's bad, but sometimes the only way you can find out is by looking at the band members, lol. I come from an area where real country music is popular and if you compare the civil wars they don't belong.
But their music is ok, i don't mind.

Hipster isn't a genre, and the concept of things being hipster just wrong.
Hipsters are supposed to be pretentious trust fund kids who hate anything mainstream because it's mainstream and not due to the content itself. Hipster music makes no sense as music 'hipsters' listen to would be too fragmented to put under one term.

And The Civil Wars has a folky country feel, to answer your question.
