Is suicide normally this common?

The suicide rate here seems a bit high.
On average somebody I know does it once a year. Some have been really close people while others were just people who hung out at the same places as me.
I have had many former people I have lived with attempt suicide while I was there as well. Usually when it doesn't work they do it with pills, but when they do it with guns they are more successful although I've heard of that failing and leaving people blind and brain damaged.
Other people I know have lost a lot of close people to suicide as well, so it doesn't just seem to be me, but the community here.
Downtown a lot of people have jumped in front of the train and every year somebody dies jumping off the bridge down the street.
I live near Seattle Washington by the way.

It's like that here too. 1

Yeah, I have heard that Seattle is the suicide capital of the world. There is no place I've ever been with more depressing weather and all that moisture actually creates a layer of mold on buildings, telephone poles and the like.
I cannot understand why any human would live in such a dingy, damp, depressing place. When I have visited, I am overwhelmed by the smell of damp decay in the air. Yuck.

    • When I lived in Hilltop Tacoma the house was condemned after being diagnosed with black stachybotrys mold. The landlord refused to have it checked so we hired our own mold inspector who said the house had to be shut down. The house is still there but they completely rebuilt the walls. I used to hear gangs shooting each other from my house and there was a crazy white supremist living next door who would clean his gun on his porch while blasting racist country music.

But pot's legal there now, the one and ONLY redeeming factor.

Seattle, Washimgton has the 2nd highest suicide rate in the U.S. Salt Lake City takes number 1. It's certainly not surprising that you'd notice so many suicides at all.

    • Makes sense. I think it's all the clouds covering the sun depraving people of serotonin making them depressed here.

That and it's plausible that low oxygen in the air could make people depressed.
