Is starving yourself normal?

Summer is coming soon so I'm trying to lose some weight. I haven't eaten anything for a week. Is it normal?

Is it normal? In some respects. Is it healthy? No.

    Not a good idea.
You are setting your body into starvation mode and cause you to gain weight in the long run.
Eat a balanced diet and eat small meals regularly.

Trying to live without food is like trying to drive a car without gas. It just doesn't work. If you don't eat, you will die, or at least have VERY serious health problems down the road.

I used to be severely anorexic/bulimic and now I have terrible arthritis all over my body. I'm only 20 years old and I feel like I'm 60. If you want to get healthy and into shape, the best diet from my experience is vegan. It's given me a whole new respect for food. Now, I nourish my body and I feel good about what I put in it. Before I went vegan I would constantly binge and purge on candy bars and ice cream. Now I would never throw up my food because everything I eat is so good for me!

You definitely are what you eat and if what you're eating is good, you will feel good inside and out!! :)

no sweetheart, your body needs food to survive, like someone also said, you will slow your metabolism down and trust me, it takes a loong time to get that back to normal. the best way is just to eat healthier and excersise daily. for most women, if you dont eat you actually gain weight because your body is telling itsself that it needs to back on lbs and store fat so you wont die. but make sure you eat, just choose the right things to eat. if your a big soda drinker and fast food eater...try giving those up and you will see a big difference [:

Obviously all the above comments are correct. It's wiser and safer to eat healthily and lose weight. However, if you're over 21, not pregnant and not a diabetic. Fasting can work for some people. There are books on how to face safely. Drink lots of water, take multi vitimins, when you break your fast don't just eat anything eat raw veg like carrots, celery or fresh fruit. Eat very light food or you will end up binging and putting all the weight on that you lost in the first place. There is a book called "the science of fasting" order it from Amazon

You'd be MUCH better off just eating healthy foods and doing 20-40 minutes of cardio a day (diet is the most important though). Fasting is not a good weight loss method and can be very unhealthy (althoutg fasting for short periods CAN be healthy, not for what your talking about though)

hey, i have done the same thing.
i have gone weeks with out eating in attempts to slim down but its really not a good idea girl, you lose grasp of reality and although you feel empowered by your ability to refuse food, it isnt good for your body or your mind.
if you want to lose weight fast just cut all the fatty foods for a while, stick to fresh veggies and fruits, whole grains, ect
i try to eat 6 small meals a day, 3 with 400 calories or less and 3 with 200 calories or less, and that works pretty well, especially if you have an active life style.

You mean you haven't eaten the same for a week? Or you have not touched any food AT ALL for a week?

Don't starve yourself. You could pass out one day from lack of energy. It's not just about losing weight, you could put your health in danger. If you don't want to gain extra pounds, just don't indulge too much on the junk food.

Baad idea. Just be reasonably healthy and work out. I promise this will work so much better. I struggled with weight issues for years and after trying fad after daf and yes, starving myself, I finally just developed a healthy lifestyle and I'm at a desired weight and feel so much better!

Once i fasted for 10 days and didn`t get hungry. I wasn`t trying to lose weight though- I just thought it would save me $ as I was travelling.
Anyway- in the long term fasting is a bad idea. It slows your metabolism down so that when you start eating again the weight can come on more than before. Excersise, excersise, escersise (sould never spell that word) And eat healty nourishing food.

    Cheers
