Is socks with sandals a thing now?

I've been noticing more and more teen girls wearing socks with sandals and I just saw an ad that showed a girl wearing them as well... this was once considered a horrible thing to do. What gives?

    In the 90s the popular girls would wear socks with sandals, then it became a lesbian trend, and as far as I know it is now something your Dad would wear (and mine does!)
