Is rectal bleeding a side effect of a general anaesthetic

Hi. I'm very concerned about my dear friend who just had knee surgery January 30,2011 and was suppose to be released yesterday February 3,2012. She had a reaction to the anaesthetic, which caused vomiting which is quite normal however, she also suffered convulsions and rectal bleeding which is not the norm. She is a very healthy, active, kind and gentle woman, who also can be the life of the party, who has an incredible zest for life, makes you feel like you're the only person in the room and devotes her spare time to the hospital and her church,a friend whom I am very blessed to know and can truly call her a friend. I am very worried about her condition and her husband of 50 years would be lost without her. Everyone she knows is in shock with her unexpected condition. So my question is, has anyone ever heard of this type of reaction before, convulsions and rectal bleeding? I have googled "reactions from general anaesthetics" and find nothing regarding convulsions or rectal bleeding. She is undergoing tests and will in the hospital until the doctors are finished completing tests and hopefully get some answers. Please, if you can give me some insight, I will truly appreciate it as her husband says he doesn't feel visiting is a good idea right now and waiting patiently is hard to do.
Thank you.

I'm a nurse and have never heard of convulsions and rectal bleeding from having knee surgery. Your friend needs to see a different doctor preferably in a different hospital if possible. the hospital she had the surgery in will not admit any wrong doing as it would be liable for being sued so get her to get another opinion somewhere else that has no affiliation with the first surgery

I agree with Kellstar79. This isn't normal. Your friend should sue the hospital, if possible, and find a doctor.

    Good Luck!
