Is porn changing the way men perceive women?

With the increasing use and abundance of porn young people seem to be getting a lot of their sexual education from it. Loads of people on this site admit to watching porn, but does it change the way men perceive women?

  • I think it does for MANY men. Just look at those stories where a guy expects his girlfriend to have anal sex. This is just one of the many examples. I'm sure many women feel obliged to do things that they would not feel comfortable doing because their boyfriend would see it in a porn video.

I personally think it's a stupid way to think but that's just my opinion. I don't let those things change the way I perceive women.

Also, in my opinion it sometimes sets the standards pretty high..... I mean, fake this fake that, women that dont age etc. So whats the expectation? How do they perceive that we should act, and look like.
I hear more and more men that are addicted to it cos its the only thing that can get them off - why is that?
I think woman know that its fake - but I think porn confuses women sometimes - what exactly do they want?

  • I just hope you don't lose it that way - could be quite a painful first time! ;)
You're right, it is fake as are all films whether they are porn or otherwise, but it doesn't seem to stop some people trying to wish reality was like that or trying to make reality fit in with what they see in films. Take romantic novels or films etc - how many people wish that their own love story was similar? Mature, sensible adults know that life isn't like that, but we aren't talking about them. Just have to look at some of the things people submit here on this site to realize that many aren't as perceptive and intelligent as you are.

It is definitely changing the way men and women see each other. How many men now want their gf or wife to pose for pornographic pics? Not so bad in itself maybe.

But then we have those same guys posting those pics on the internet (without their gf knowing) and guys that keep these pics as their own porn collection, even after they are in a proper relationship with someone else; how sick and disrespectful is that?

I agree with some people on here, I don't have a problem with porn, but separating the fantasy from real life is very hard for some guys and they don't seem to understand why there is a difference.

If you enjoy porn it should enhance the sex life with your partner not intrude on it, or interfere with it.

  • No I don't think it changes the way men view women. Men have seen women as sex objects since they first appeared.

id say that way too many youngsters alone @ their computers secretly watch it and form their initial ideas about sex. which is detrimental to their minds. the internet provides a way for so many more kids toview it, not like in previous generations, unfortunately..

  • Can you elaborate on "perceive women"

    • Sure,liiaaa3. Perceive women simply meaning the way they think about women in regard to what they expect from women and how they treat women in relation to sex.

      • I think both men and female unferstand porn is purely for entertainment purposes only. However, that's not to say they wouldn't want to try something they saw in a porno flick. After watching porn and never having sex I certainly don't expect to lose it to a guy with a 9" cock. Any man that has been in a relationship with a woman would understand how fake porn is (if they didn't know already).

The way I understand it is that porn is fantasy and real life sex is noting like what they show on porn,

I have no problem with porn but I think it is important to make the distinction between fantasy and real life.

    • But can youngsters make that distinction? You can because you are a mature adult. However, you see posts here asking whether a 5" penis is too small. It probably isn't, but if you only way of comparing yours to other people's is by watching porn then you certainly will think that you are undersize. Porn is misleading if you can't make that distinction

I'm a woman and I think men can understand that it's fake.

But I understand your concern because porn depicts all women as sluts that want to get squirted in the face.

I'm a man and I honestly believe most men think this is reality. I also think some women do. It scares the life out of me that people would trust what some random stranger put on a screen purely to make money above what their partner says they want from the person they profess to love.

It's clear that porn does depict unrealistic situations but all kinds of media does that. Porn is older than the internet. It has always been there so it shouldn't be treated as a NEW problem changing men's perceptions. Yes, they might mistake it as real at first the way all young people are confused about sex at first, but they soon realize the difference between fantasy and reality.

I will admit that pornography is easier to access nowadays. In fact it's so easy people come across it by accident. But it's not as if the porn industry can be controlled. I think this perception of women only affects young men. If people really are concerned with the way youngsters see women sexually they should push forth better sex education.

The sex education I got in highschool was terrible. And there are some schools that don't even have sex ed.

            • Mine wasn't up to much either - I learned everything I know about female anatomy from Playboy magazine!

              Comment Hidden ( show )
    • True, it's fake, but do most men see it that way? Do men think about it that way? Personally, I don't watch it thinking about whether it is real or not.
As you say it depicts women as sluts - will that make young boys want to treat women in this way? There are loads of posts on this site where peolpe talk about what they want to do with their wives - how much of that comes from porn?
