Is physical punishment still common practice?

I grew up on the physical punishment regimen. By today's standard I guess it would be considered abuse as I have many scars and marks to show but, regardless of it being legal or not, do parents still do it?

    No, it's not normal.
Parents who use corporal punishment and /or verbal or mental abuse as a means to discipline their offspring, are old-school throwbacks of an earlier period.

They had simply never learned that a rewards-based system of instilling appropriate behaviours, is far more effective.
Id est, that rewards are given for suitable or proper behaviour(s), but the child or adolescent learns that rewards previously awarded might be revoked for poor or inappropriate behaviour(s), and that no rewards will be earned or offered where they are not worthy or deserving.
There are some subtle variations to this, depending on the attitudes and discretions of the parents.

If you have scars and marks, you were abused. Not normal at all. Physical punishment as in spanking, I would say is normal and not uncommon.

    • I was definitely conditioned to fear a lot of things growing up. I.e. comming home late for any reason warrented cig burns on my arm.

Cigarette burns? That's not just physical punishment, but outright abuse. Something like that happening today would have CPS busting down your door and hauling your parents off to jail in no time flat.

That's just terrible that this was how you were treated. I'm sure you were subjected to other forms of abuse (i.e. torture) that are just reprehensible beyond words. I hope you were able to get therapy and have been able to cope with the physical and mental scars of your past.

In a way yes and no. It's not normal for you to be left with scars because of a punishment. That is abuse. But a simple slap on the butt for punishment is fine. There's a fine line between punishment and abuse.
There are probably parents who still do it, personally my grandma growing up used to threaten me with a horse whip if I did something bad, but my parents never harmed me other than a light slap on the butt. But what do I know, I'm only 15 after all.

So you hate mostly conservative (nowadays), mostly Christian men who arrange social meetings in order to engage in (not so) secret cults inspired by Christian mysticism, find funds for their organization and for occasional philanthropy? Like, specifically? Even though you are conservative yourself and most likely Christian? Well, good for you. Kind of pointless, though. They are like an at least slightly more humane and more occult version of you.

It is common in many countries. It still happens a lot in my motherland, but, right now, it's thankfully considered a serious crime.

if you are a Muslim you can kill them in a honor killing. its all good if it pleases the prophet Mohammad. its a religion of peace. they told us so it must be true. Im a democrat so i think we sould immigrate some more over here from counties we are bombing the shit out of. i know it sounds retarded but Democrats are the party of the educated. So it must be true.

No you can't. Honor killing is illegal in most Islamic majority countries.

I cannot think of any, though; I was just giving you the benefit of the doubt. Pakistan is very well known for honor killings, but are they legal there? Not at all. Besides, honor killings are very common in many Christian majority countries, and in many regions they go unpunished due to neglect by local authorities, even though they are officially illegal. That is not that different from what happens in Pakistan.

well i guess Jews beat their kids like Sadists . became a christian and learn how forgiving others can enhance your life. Your parents will want to beat you some more. But hey they are what they are right.

In Morocco where I currently am, it is common! They beat kids here really. It's quite upsetting. And the truth of it is, that the kids don'tlearn from being beat! They just become more aggressive.

There's a significant difference between a parent giving his kids scars and a spanking. Scaring children is not ok.
