Potaytoes. Mash 'em, eat 'em, boil 'em in a stew.
Ten points to anyone who gets that reference, haha.
It depends. I prefer individuality, but I prefer normality when it comes to other stuff
I think people should stop caring about being "normal". What is normal? Nothing, it's just a word is all, no one really knows what is it. People need to spot being zombies and learn to think for themselves.
"Normal" may be imprecise, but it's not nonexistent. To be normal is to adhere to a standard, usually set by a majority.
Yeah you're right... normal is what the Majority thinks is normal... but noone can say from himself tht he is (completely) normal cuz u can't be normal in every point!
BTW for me it doesn't matter whats normal I only life one life so I try to do what I want and I guess YOU should do tht too!
What? I wasn't arguing that normality is good, I was defining the term for someone. What are you talking about?
I think normality is more complex than just a good/bad duality. Of course it matters what's normal - you're speaking normal English, because you need to conform to it in order to function. That's normal. You also probably don't walk around in a bikini, clown makeup, and a 20ft tall top hat, because society thinks that's weird, and has taught you to not want that. So we're all functionally normal, and that's important for society -- but individuality is just as important in terms of economic innovation, culture, and the pursuit of happiness.
No one is the same as someone else, the irony is that we're all the same due to us all being different.
To me, that's the same sort of logical cop-out as when someone says, "well we can never really KNOW anything 100%". Ultimately true, but logically unhelpful - it ends all discussion yet misses the point. We only have "normal" under the system of categorization that we've created, just as we only "know" things under a similar system. So the issue is, within that system, is our understanding of normality comparable to our understanding of individuality?
It depends where you live and how long you would like to remain living. But ultimately it is best for an individual to seek individuality unless they have no desire to know and understand there true self
Depends, if your "individuality" is raping chickens.. Then no it's not preferred..
Normal is so arbitrary. What is 'normal' exactly? Everyone has their own unique traits and idiosyncrasies that make them special and to hide them would be to buy into the bullshit notion that you have to be a certain way to get approval. If you're a good person, who gives a shit about anything else?
Everyone's normal. Mostly everyone's pretty predictable.
YOu can't really be unique because of how you dress or how you decorate..you bought that shit in a store, so obviously it's not unique.
If you have a mental or physical condition, you're not unique, you're right in step with the other people who have the same condition.
Put it this way: you MAY be unique if you disappeared one day and you were never found during your reasonable lifespan.
Not for me, no. I would love to actually be myself around other people. As humans, we love fitting in and riding on a bandwagon. We don't want to be ridiculed outcasts. So as a society, I think that we perfer normality over individuality, unfortunately.
That's a kind of slippery question to me due to the different things normality can mean to different people. Logically, I'd differentiate between a "less (worse) than normal" and a "more (better) than normal". For a kid who grows up feeling like a social reject, normality might seem aspirational. For an average kid normality might seem boring. They'd reach for something more: uniqueness and (positive) individuality to differentiate themselves from their peers.
I never understood sociology and all those other useless "sciences." I'm sure a grad student is working on this same question right now and the "solution" will change nothing.
If normal is being some faggety scene/emo/punk wannabe then no. You're all hated. I just am dude. It don't make no nevermind nohow bromigo. I do what I do, cause nobody else can.
