Is my case of awkwardness normal?

Ever since my dad was away for a couple of years (early elementary school), I have had a terrible problem looking people in the face, and even talking clearly, especially with girls. Even with my best friend and family I can formulate a cognitive sentence in my mind but I can't articulate it clearly in the most comfortable of situations. This led to me just not talking a lot, which doesn't really help my self confidence, and that just makes all of my social interactions awkward because I can't think of anything to say. Is this totally outlandish, and if so, is there anything that can help? Thanks

Shyness is something which you can grow out of as you get older, as is confidence something you can learn to pretend to have.

I completely understand this. Whenever I'm in a conversation I talk relatively well for the first 30 seconds then run out of things to say, or just find it difficult to clearly communicate my thoughts throughout the whole conversation. The only way to improve this is practice practice practice. Perhaps find a counselor that you can talk to and practice with in a safe space free of judgement. It's normal by the way, to answer your question.
