The American Civil Liberties Union believes the death penalty inherently violates the constitutional ban against cruel and unusual punishment and the guarantees of due process of law and of equal protection under the law. Furthermore, we hold that the state should not arrogate unto itself the right to kill human beings – especially when it kills with premeditation and ceremony, in the name of the law or in the name of its people, or when it does so in an arbitrary and discriminatory fashion.
Yes, but for some people that really deserve it, I would wish they brought back out the electric chair :/
No its sick. Imagine being the guy having to inject the victim. I would probably sit and cry when I get home and reevaluate my life and what its worth.
well its not painless! they stick a drip in your arm, adding a chemical that hurts and puts you in a coma but you can still feel. next another which hurts like HELL. and remember its out of a drip. slow. very slow. and painful. next the lethal bit that stops your heart.
Humane:
1. Having or showing compassion or benevolence.
2. Inflicting the minimum of pain.
By the 2nd criteria, I suppose it is. But my personal feeling is that killing someone is not humane.
Well if you don't like lethal injection there's still other options... each one more painful than the preceding option.
Beheading, firing squad, noose, Rebecca Black.
I on't like it at all. It's not painless. Of course, the people who get the death penalty are very terrible but no one deserves to die like that.
Actually, a lethal injection does hurt and is not painless. They usually inject Sodium thiopental first, which induces a coma state before injecting a dose of Pancuronium bromide (Pavulon) which acts as a paralytic agent.
Now that the patient is unable to move and unconcious/semi-concious, they give the final injection of Potassium chloride, which in effect, stops the electic impulses from causing the heart to contract, thus killing the criminal.
It's probably as humane as killing someone can get however.
if it unduces a coma at first which bit is painful? the prick of the needle?
It can induce a coma-like state, the "state" being the key word. The second stage apparently hurts because of the chemical content of the Bromide, but because of the first effect of the first drug, it is not apparent to whomever is watching the execution.
I have read about it before and looked it up, don't try to be snarky about it, honestly...
