Is it weird to hate gays, but also support them entirely?

I've never liked gays at all. The thought of two people of the same sex making love or engaging in anything intimate really sickens me so much it makes my skin crawl.

Despite these feelings though, I fully support gay rights. I support gay marriage, gays in the military, and so forth. I've even participated in gay support rallies.

I just can't find it in my heart to go against the rights of other human beings. Even though I dislike gays, I still feel that they're entitled to equal rights.

Is this weird, and has anyone ever experienced this before?

It's somewhat weird (to me). It's just that I've never seen a case like yours before...I always had the impression that if you dislike something, you wouldn't support it at all.

But! I fully commend your thinking; everyone *does* deserve equal rights! Keep it up! :)

  • I don't think its weird, I think it's like hating what someone says, but supporting their right to say it.

I commend you!, actually. To me, gayness has always seemed perfectly natural, but it's fine if some people can't wrap their head around it. The problem is when you take away someone else's rights because what they do isn't *your* cup of tea. So GOOD ON YOU! :)

Do you really mean you hate gays? That's sorta sad...Like hate them personally? Or do you just hate what they do?

But it's admirable that you can set aside your personal issues with gays and be able to support them instead of letting your views cause you to be cruel or hateful towards them. If only more people could do that.

It's understandable to be repulsed by gay sex but to support the individual rights of gays. Think about defending free speech. It doesn't mean you like everything anybody says.

  • I don't get it... You support them in every way but yet you hate them? That makes no sense dude. You wouldn't support them if you do actually hate them. I personally hate them but at the same time I don't give a shit about those faggots. They can go jump off a cliff for all I care :)

Thank you for being so forthright. You seem thoughtful, and politically, you seem to really love and respect gays. If you feel uncomfortable about gay sex, it doesn't mean you hate them. Sex used to be a private matter. You don't have to love what people do behind closed doors. Maybe it's nothing we should have an opinion about at all.

It is not weird, the fact that u can stand for the rights of people u may not agree wuth is amazing. U put ur fello humans befor u and that makes u a hero pretty much, or pretty close at least.

  • For myself: sex is sex and it doesn't bother me a bit who's doing it. I don't know for certain why it doesn't bother me though, but maybe it's because I've never been conditioned to believe that same sex partners having sex is wrong or gross. When I see same-sex partners having sex, I just see two people getting off and it seems really normal & natural to me.

I think you are normal though. Most people are brought up (in childhood) to idealize heterosexual romantic intimacy as normal - it starts with Disney movies and goes on from there. After years of heterosexual conditioning, it is very possible that anything different from that would cause a person to squirm until they eventually got use to the idea. This is just my theory though, not science.

the whole gay rights issue is bullshit. there is such a thing as human rights. people who consider themselves "gay" have as many rights as everybody else, they gave freedom of speech, movement etc, nobody prosecutes them. what r they asking about is benefits. it is wrong for same sex sex and not wrong for people not to tolerate it. i dont like fags myself, its their busieness. but fuck their marriage and shit

My younger brother is gay & I too fully support gay rights but I differ from you only in that I cannot stand to see two MEN with each other in a physical or sexual way. Two women to me is one of my biggest turn ons, two men gross me out & I can't bare to watch it or see it in person. I have a 3 yr old son & I want to keep him away from anything homosexual only because he can't understand it at his young age, he sees mom & dad kiss regularly but seeing uncle kiss another man might be too much that's why I forbid him to be around it as much as I possibly can, one day he will see it I just hope he's old enough so that I can explain & he will understand.

Sorry, but I don't understand your reasoning concerning your son. Surely hiding same-sex love from him will lead him to consider it unnatural? when he is older these views will already have their foundations laid.

I don't think he would notice anything unusual about his uncle kissing a man unless there was an indicator from and adult that it was weird or wrong.

Not weird. You're a red, white, & blue blooded American. You have gone beyond merely tolerating other's rights & beliefs, you supported the rights
Of those you do not agree with, because it's the right thing to do. Something Americans seem to understand fully, even though we are the people who ushered this belief into the new world. The philosophy that is embedded into your soul is the very foundation on which we built this country. You give me hope for the future. I too get a little uneasy around homosexuals, or whatever is the P. C. Term today, but they are human beings they should have the same right to be miserable as I have. (one thing, try to remember that first thing I said when you're faced w/Nazis/Panthers/KKK/ Muslims/Jews, plIn stupid people, etc. etc. on a soap box; tolerance)
