Do you think that our primal instincts and programming holds much weight in modern humans? We are much more cultured, worldly and educated than our cave dwelling predecessors. We can, presumably, communicate our thoughts and feelings in more effective ways than the prehistoric did. Does this not at least partially negate the importance of things like how penises are shaped and how women's bodies are physically designed to host multiple partners?

As for the gang rape question, yeah, I'm sure you're right: our ancient ancestors probably weren't much concerned about consent. Hell, within the lifetime of people still living in our society, husbands had the legal and moral right to have sex with their wives, regardless of what the woman thought about that. If a little violence was necessary, well, that was his right too. In some places, that's still true today.
I think we all consider ourselves civilised (or most of us do anyway), but many of the drivers for why we do the things we do are opaque to us. Some of them are buried way down in the parts of our brain we inherited from our ancestors, and that bit doesn't (and can't) communicate directly with the parts of our brains that deal with higher-order thinking.

I agree that we aren't merely animals who should automatically give into whatever we feel like doing at any moment. Human society simply can't function like that, and we are - like it or not - social animals who depend on others in very many ways.
