Is it still necessary to learn morse code?

I think I want to learn morse code. Is it still necessary to learn morse code in this point of generation? Can I benefit from it? Or is learning it now is just a waste of time and effort?

BTW, if it is necessary, I'm a 4th year level Computer Science student. I know it is ironic that I have this feeling that I need to learn how to do morse code.

    It's only necessary if you are stranded in the mountains and need to send smoke signals.

      Yeah, I think it would be great to have knowledge about it. But I don't where or when I can use it.

    Why not? Sometimes Morse code comes up in general knowledge quizzes, or as an Easter egg in pop culture. I don't think it's necessary, but since when did something have to be necessary to do it?

    My great grandpa is a WWII veteran and still remembers morse code to this day. However, he doesn't use it anymore, only because noone knows it and there really is no need to use it anymore.

    It might be useful, just because of how similar it is to binary.

    Learn Morse code, when the aliens hit us with their EMP and all civilization grinds to a halt because we are reliant on technology. We can tap out messages to each other on the trees when we're hiding in the woods.
