Is it right for people to bring the bad side of you?

I know its normal for your bad side to come out due to certain individuals but is it right? Does it mean you lack confidence because you can't avoid the people and be yourself regardless? This situation is really frustrating because those certain individuals don't see who you really are. Its a disability; your bad side just comes out, its natural and the real you is incapable of coming out. You're a different person depending on who you are with and you can't seem to be just one person, meaning yourself, around everyone no matter who they are. It sucks but it happens. So what does this mean?

  • A answer of right or wrong is too simplistic for something like this. It fails to take into account a person's situation.

It is natural to want to avoid displaying or expressing negative feelings ("bad side"), it is not a sign of low confidence or an inability to be yourself. On the extreme end, during emotionally or physically stressful times, people--even really nice people--can have difficulties staying positive; they are not being their normal selves because they are not experiencing a normal situation, they are in duress. Some might argue that people are actually showing their true-selves under stress, but I think it only serves to cause people to act irrationally.

On a more normal level, a certain amount of hiding aspects of your personality is actually socially expected. Again I believe it depends on the situation; like at work, or with your grandparents, or at a birthday party or a funeral. People only show all of themselves around the people they trust the most in their lives and it kind of makes those relationships more intimate that way, in my opinion.

There, I had to sleep on it, but I think this articulates what I meant better than before. Sorry for my confusing blurb. :)

I think who we spend time with influences how we act, no matter whether or not it brings out your bad side. I have extremely smart friends where we speak in Old English and I have other friends that all we do is dick around the whole day. It shows versatility in the personality, I think.
