Is it possible to be overly feminine?

I'm a girly girl to the extreme, in that if I could exist solely in lace and sparkles, and never have to go near another pair of jeans or track pants again, I'd gladly accept. I adore coordinating outfits, and I find this whole t-shirt-and-skinny-jean "trend" terribly uninspired. It's as if I'm living in the wrong century... I would have been so much more suited to petticoats and pearls.
However, this sort of thing doesn't tend to go over very well in public high school. :/
What makes me so terribly abnormal?

I say embrace it! The world needs more girly girls like you. I would give anything to go back to an era where women dressed up like ladies.

You sound like you'd be right at home in lolita fashion.

There are plenty of online forums for fans of similar clothing to you, and I'm sure you'd be able to make lots of friends that way.

I would love that... I honestly would rather dress in 1800s rich clothing, though.

  • You are normal and have your own tastes. But you are right - high schools are notoriously conforming and conservative. Perhaps you would have been at home in the 50-60s, though not exactly petticoats, much more girlish.

Then, the few people with t-shirts, jeans, longish hair were the exception. Now they're the norm - like "I'm going to be different - just like everyone else." The "freaks" now are the biggest conformists & approval seekers imaginable.

I guess you will decide who to please and how much. But its nice that you are defining dressing tastes largely on what you like.

A lot of people are uncomfortable being around those who are very "different" from themselves or from what they are used to. So, they will tease you and criticize you for being different.

Just ignore them. If you hold firm to who you are, and how you like to dress, you will prevail.

At the same time, realize that in certain social or business contexts, how you dress can have an impact on the outcome. So, you need to be mindful of this, if you want to achieve certain ends.

The only way YOU can be too feminine, is if you were a guy, and usually when that happens they're labeled as gay/queer/femmy or metrosexual. If you're a girl, and act like one, then you're doing something that comes to natural to you, which is never abnormal.
