Is it possible to be in love with someone but not realize it?

I'm curious what you all think.

Let's say you're friends with someone and you call them your friend, is it possible to actually be in love with them but not realize?

The love of pop music, Hollywood films and soap operas is usually actually no more than infatuation: a sudden, blinkered fixation on a false, idealised perception of another person. That sort of love is shallow, mainly about what you're feeling, and it has very little to do with the reality of the other person.

I don't see how you how you can be infatuated with someone without knowing it.

Real love is understanding the other person for who they truly are - as much as it is ever possible for us to truly understand another person - and wanting to be with them despite all their human failings because the two of you are better together than you are apart. That sort of love can only grow with understanding, so yeah, it is entirely possible for friendship to turn into some sort of love.

I don't think you can be. You can be sexually attracted but that's not the same. Love is a more controllable and conscious feeling.

  • Love is nothing but an illusion. A way for the simple minded to cling desperately to some kind of shallow purpose which will eventually be banished forever by death’s cold embrace.
