That is not really how it works first off. Secondly I have a issue with both of these sayings since they are not really true and are based on misconceptions. Now to answer your question neither of these work. Relationships are not based on being the same or different its based on chemistry.

I thought so too, could be a regional thing? Turns of phrase are often different in different places.

The term "Flock of birds fly together" but it does not apply to everyone. That is like saying since you are forced to be around your family that you are like them. Not every child from a crack addicted mother is going to be doing crack. If you have drink parents does not mean you will be an acholic and if your parents are convicted criminals does not mean you will follow the same road.

both because similarities help bring you together but opposite things make it more interesting so you can learn about each other

I'd only be comfortable around people who are like me, I find it tough to make conversation as it is, if we have no common ground it is even harder.

It's not so black and white. There has to be some overlap in interests and attitudes, but not all of them need to be shared.

    E.I.O.I.E.I.A.

Similarities matter. I like a girl that has the same musical interests as me.

For friendship its a common group for relationships it's normally opposite as you seem interesting and misty eyed

I think opposites attract is more likely from my experience.

I'd have to say it's not very cut and dry in either case, but I'd say friendships usually develop off of common interests, and relationships can work with either way, but even in relationships, I'd have to say that similarities seem to produce stronger connections.

most of my friends are different from one another which is good bc we get to experience and learn new things. as far as relationships, it can go either way (ha, and so do I)

It depends on the oposing forces at play. Among my flock, I am attracted to my opposite. We have much in common. Our differences lay in the way we interact with people and how we approach them.

Opposites attract orginally refers to opposite magnetic polarities. someone thought they were being philisophical when they tried to apply the term to human personalities and relationships. Birds of a feather flock together better fits the idea of frienship. People are generally drawn to other people with similar interests and personalities.
