Is it normal when you stand up and get dizzy?

Recently, when I stand up I get dizzy, for a few seconds, and it is getting worse.I was wandering if anyone else gets this, or what it it? My mum doesn't believe me , because she says im a bit of a drama queen, so don't say to tell my mum, or go to the doctors...

    I get that headrush a lot. It's actually not normal but it's common.

    This is normal. Its because you must have siting or laying down for a long time, so when you stand up all your blood rushes to places of your body that doesn't have much circulation when you were siting. Try standing up slower.

    "mum" :-) gotta luv it.

    try breathing into your belly slowly and deeply as you are getting up (take your time), and exhale slowly when sitting down.

    I don't think it's normal when you feel that something is not normal and is only getting worse. I say you do some online searching b4 you tell your mom. I felt dizzy all the time and they did a blood test on me, found out I was anemic ,a condition in which the body does not have enough healthy red blood cells. Red blood cells provide oxygen to body tissues. Anyways..Nothing a few vitamins added to my diet couldn't fix. Sometimes your body is trying to tell you it's lacking a couple nutrients. Best Wishes to your health!

    actually it happens quite often. more then likely your overweight (not being mean) when you get up you don't have enough blood pressure to get to your head fast enough. probably also happens when you stretch. Just lose a couple of pounds and you should be fine

    Your heart needs to pump blood upwards to get it to your brain. Getting up quickly will result in downwards force in your blood relative to your body from the inertia (resistance to movement).

    The dizziness is a result of your brain temporarily getting less blood and therefore less oxygen.

    It could also be a sign of low blood pressure if it happens all the time. Best to get that checked, just incase.

    Sounds like orthostatic/postural hypotension which is when your blood pressure drops when you change posture. You should get your dr to check it out just in case.

    It's normal. This is called a " Dizzy Spell ". It happens when you've been sitting down or laying down for a good period of time and getting up a little too quickly.

    Actually, yes. Depending on how long you've been sitting down. If I sit for rather extended periods of time, and stand up suddenly, I become dizzy, and even lose vision for a few seconds! Everyone I know gets this, too. So, I would say it's normal. :)
