Is it normal when you pass a street light and it goes out?

I first noticed this like 15 years ago(1/2 my life). I would be driving and street lights would go out right before I approached them or right when they were above me just once an a while hardly noticeable. Now a days this happens every time I drive. I will have 3-5 street lights go out as I pass them in a daily drive of every day stuff. What is this. I told my wife about it when we first met she said no way does that happen.. Now fast forward she has seen it with her own eyes that this happens to me I point it out and she's like I saw that go out. Is this normal. What does this mean? I looked something up and it said that people can have extra brain flow and can disrupt certain things. I don't know if I believe that. But I'm waiting for the day when the street lights go off consecutively one by one as I drive and as I look at the rear view mirror its all blackness.

True story: the other day I farted as I passed a streetlight and it started to flicker in that instant. It startled me for a second but then I thought it's probably coincidence.

My best hunch: The streetlights have sensors that cause the light to turn on when it's too dark and turn off when there is sunlight. Maybe your car's headlights are fairly strong and cause the lamps to think it's daytime -and thus turn themselves off. It would only happen to the streetlights that are calibrated to be slightly more sensitive to light.
    Far-fetched I know but plausible :O.

The bulb has reached the end of its life cycle and needs to be replaced. It gives off a yellowish light, which comes from a low pressure sodium light. They don't 'blow' like an incandescent bulb in your house. They just act funny. Contact the power company or city public works department and tell them the light is cycling off and on. They will replace the bulb.

  • It's more likely that your car is producing interference.
