Is it normal, what's so great about "super models"?

When asked about their looks, a lot of girls will tell you, "well, I'm no super model....."......what does that mean??

In my opinion, agencies choose shapeless women to wear their clothing..women with size fourteen feet who are so desperate to be able to squeeze into a size seven pump..women who have strange, alien-esque features, that aren't necessarily "beautiful" but borderline weird but are willing to accept "different" or "unique" as a compliment..women who are damn near unrecognizable without their twenty pounds of hair and make up..women who starve or vomit themselves into a size zero..women who tower over everyone around them..women who are pleased with walking up and down a runway with an "I just farted" face for a career..

is it normal that I don't find super models attractive? I'm a girl by the way, and no I'm not hating. I'd rather keep my cute face, curves, and size 6.5 feet.

The purpose of skinny girls is to weed the jocks, jerks and douchebags out of the male population. That leaves the male talent pool cleaner, so you get a better pick of decent men.

Eh, I get shit from big women all the time about my perceived "thin-ness" and how it makes me less beautiful than them because I don't have D cups, a huge ass, or that anything bigger than a size 6 would look like a circus tent on me. Not to mention the fact that I am ruining their lives by virtue of my being average weight and height.

You'd be surprised at how many unwarranted speeches I have gotten concerning how they are "proud of their curves" and couldn't be skinny and shapeless like me. Because, you know, I walk around wearing a shirt saying "Women with curves can't be beautiful too". Seriously, the tangent is usually totally unrelated to what we are talking about.

I'd sympathise with you, but the root problem of the whole "beauty standard" is women criticising other women and that's exactly what you're doing. Women need to learn to appreciate themselves and stop trying to drag other women down. If you're happy and healthy and have good self-esteem then fuck what everyone else says, you're not doing anything wrong and criticising people for having self-esteem issues and eating disorders only perpetuates the problem.

    • Aww, I'm sorry if I offended you. Like I said to another poster, I was just venting a little bit. As long as you're healthy and happy, that's all that matters.

I just hate seeing women compare themselves to "super models" because you can be beautiful no matter what shape, size, or color you are.

        You didn't offend me.
And I hate seeing women compare themselves to anyone. You are who you are. To compare yourself to something that you are biologically not is irrational and I hardly feel sorry for people who think that irrationally.

        • Well, isn't it natural to compare yourself to others? You're always going to see someone with something that you want or wish you had.

People who purposely harm themselves in order to achieve an unhealthy, ghastly appearance, are mainly who I'm aiming at. If you're naturally thin, that's a different story.

That doesn't make it the rational thing to do. Rationality and what people are bent towards doing are two different things.

And those who purposely harm themselves to achieve their standard of beauty have a psychological disorder and criticising them is only perpetuating the problem.

Thanks for the post. I think the would be reply may be : Those who say they are 'proud of their curves', for their kind information, the word is 'curvaceous', and....does obesity naturally augment breasts...I didn't know that...may be I haven't met enough women...

I find VERY few super models attractive. I tend to go for shorter, girls with pretty eyes and big bootys. (just a personal preference)

I've never seen the attraction of super models. They're arrogant, catty, nowty, spoilt, attention-seeking nightmares. I see more attractive women in the supermarket.

  • These "super models" aren't really attractive. Maybe if they didn't starv themselves and wear so much make up they'd be somewhat attractive, but until then they are quite...Well, not appealing.

Super models don"t have their "natural look" meaning most of the time non of their actual features are showing. Besides they practically ruin their bodies doing these things,

Not a fan of super models myself. Most of the Victorias Secret girls are like 5'8" and up, and are like 110 lbs-130 lbs. yea they have pretty faces, but it doesn't do much for me to see the in their bra and panties

  • Its not the standard of beauty, its the standard that commercializes beauty.

Kate Moss is not attractive at all, and never was in my opinion. Brooklyn Decker and Kate Upton, and Irina Shayk are on the other hand.

    Skinny, but still very curvy.

It's normal to think this way as long as you don't obsess over it, although not necessarily nice. I'm a girl too and I don't find most super models attractive. I'd say some of them are really pretty and some meh. Everyone's tastes are different.

I do think that most people don't have a developed perception of beauty that they could call their own though. So they'll just accept whatever the industry says is pretty and ignore everything else. If the same supermodels were regular people most people wouldn't look some of them twice even though they melt at the sight of them now. BUT all women, all sizes are beautiful, don't shun someone out because they have big feet, skinny, big, small etc.

    • I don't obsess over it. I think I was just venting a little bit because I was reading a lot of posts where girls would say that about themselves. It angered me. "I'm no super model..." I mean, come on. You're you. If you think any less of yourself because you don't look like them, what does that say about us as a society?

I don't like the wafer-thin catwalk models, who are paid to strut around in weird items of clothing. However, I'd consider a supermodel to be someone who's on billboards, adverts and in magazines/tabloids often...Kate Moss being the obvious example.

"women who have strange, alien-esque features, that aren't necessarily "beautiful" but borderline weird but are willing to accept "different" or "unique" as a compliment''

Meoowww. Bitchy & ignorant, with a hint of jealousy.

    • Kate Moss clearly has a problem. She looks like a corpse.
Maybe a little bitchy. I was more so trying to uplift women, to let them know that super models aren't attractive in everyone's eyes.
How was that ignorant? I was stating the obvious. How can you detect any ounce of jealousy in my post? You need to re-read it again.

The one thing here that bothers me is you're talking about girls with unique features as though it's a bad thing. I naturally have an unusual facial structure and have gotten a lot of flack throughout my life for not looking more ordinary. For me unique or different would be a compliment, because I embrace my appearance the way it is.

Saying they look weird & making out like being unique is a bad thing, is ignorant. Maybe I was wrong about the jealousy thing, you're obviously too perfect to be envious of anyone else...
