Is it normal we call each other names?

It's cool when couples have their own nicknames for each other not just babe, baby, hun, etc. My bf and I call each other bitch lol and I am to blame for that cause I call everyone a bitch. It just slips, its not personal and when we met, he caught that and found it funny and started calling everyone a bitch too including me. So now we say "what are u doin bitch?" "cause i said so bitch!""bitch thats wrong!" I can go forever. We also tell each other to "stfu" "fuck off" etc. It's just how we joke around but its become more on the regular. Of course, I don't mind him calling me a bitch or telling me to stfu cause its like an "inside joke" and others won't understand it but sometimes I feel like maybe he means it? or he takes it too far sometimes and he can't be soft at least for once. I guess I have encouraged it cause I enjoy it and I don't see anything wrong with it until I think what others might think. I know it might not matter if we are both happy but maybe an outsider's view would see more of the negative side of it and possibly the truth to it; he doesn't respect me. I definitely don't want to be a buzzkill and taking this too seriously, but I'm always curious. Otherwise, I just see that we're comfortable with each other, becoming best friends, and building that foundation first before we become more of a serious couple. So other than possibly being disrespected in the long run, I think we're good, bitch.

Well yes. My bf and I dont call each other babe, hun, or the worst of all one, baby. Hate that one. Our most used one is butthole. His newest one that he is called as of last night is fuckboi.

I think it's normal, assuming you have that type of relationship. My boyfriend and I call each other all kinds of disparaging names (from "cunt retard" to "filthy bogan trash bag"), but it is ONLY done so with the implicit understanding that these insults are not only a private joke between the two of us, but they are also terms of endearment (like a white trash "honey").

It works only because we have an understanding that we respect and care for one another and would never, under any circumstances, use an insult in a serious fashion or during a serious conversation.

If what your boyfriend is saying does bother you, then you need to speak to him. I'm sure he's not intentionally taking the joke too far because up until this point, you've led him to believe that you have absolutely no problem with it. If he respects you, he'll give it a rest if you ask.

    Normal.
Well, I don't know about normal but you guys aren't the only ones...

Me & my gf go far beyond bitch but there is absolutely no truth behind our insults & name calling.
Truth be told I love and respect her & the fact she is strong enough to dish out AND take some fucking heavy insults is a huge plus to me.

From what you say, the difference with us is that the insults are mixed with a whole lot of regular sweet stuff.

IMO if you are starting to THINK your bf might be even semi-serious you need to talk to him.
If he didn't mean any of it then it would be hugely unfair of you to start this behavior, let it continue then get angry/upset down the track because you started to dislike or question it but didn't say anything.

As for what other people think - fuck other people...

You said you feel sometimes he means it, and that you're considering that he doesn't respect you or will in the long run. Well I think this is just a slippery slope which may lead to more disrespect in the relationship, because I don't know for how long you will enjoy it... what if you decide to get serious or have children... then you'd want this vulgarity to stop in front of your kids at least. Personally, I don't condone any disrespect by my partner unless it's a joke and if you take it that way, then all should be well with that.
