Is it normal turn based rpg's

Hi, I've recently been playing a game called lost odyssey, the world is incredibly immersive and the story has some real potential, the main character has lost parts if his memory and as you play through the game you see things that unlock memories, when this happens you are taken to a separate screen and a story is told of the memory in text, this is accompanied by sound effects and background artwork, the writing is eloquent, descriptive and beautiful, this adds up to create an extremely enjoyable, immersive and emotionally investing experience.

But I hate turn based combat. I find it tedious and boring, even though it requires skill and strategy, every single time a random encounter battle is triggered I sigh, and it happens a lot, as it should its a turn based rpg I just not only do not find it enjoyable but I despise the whole process.
is it normal does anyone else feel this way and have you gotten past it. Also has anyone played the game and is the story good enough that I should soldier on?

I'm the opposite. I really like turn-based RPGs, especially, Pokemon, Golden Sun, Fire Emblem, and the Final Fantasy games. But, then again, I'm one of those people who'd spend hours unnecessarily overpowering my characters right after the game has barely started. I think it just depends on your patience and how well the other aspects of the game are. Also, it sometimes helps when you take long breaks in between playing the game or just don't have the money to spend on lots of other games.

Me too /: Pokemon is an exception... But otherwise I don't care for them.
