Is it normal to worship musicians?

I have found myself devoting most of my life to music, and my favorite musicians. I think it's getting to the point where I actually worship them and rejoice in all of the blessings they have given unto us.

I think Thom Yorke, Jack White, and Maynard James Keenan just might be our saviors.

    Hiya,

I'm so glad I saw this. There are 2 types of people, those who think like we do, and those who don't, who tend to think we're weird.

I can measure periods of my life in which musicians I liked. Some stay as favourites but a lot tend to come and go. As long as you aren't neglecting other areas of your life for them, and family comes first, you're fine.

When I was younger there was this band [don't want to give their name] who I absolutely loved. I was basically conditioned to think they were good. I mixed them up with their songs and, because I loved fantasy too I thought their singer was a witch or a Siren or possibly both (mind you, I used to think meat came from the ground as well)

The Sirens were said to make you stop in your tracks and disregard everything else apart from their song –- her voice honestly had and has the same effect. It was, and is, Biblically good.

I write short fantasy stories (sadly not published yet, if at all) and a fictionalised version of this lady is somewhere in most if not all of it. A lot of other fans seem to have had the same idea.
When the band/singer comes round I have to go & see them.

If it's who I'm guessing it is she doesn't sing with the original band you liked anymore, true? ;)

    • Wow, this musician sounds totally killer. I might possibly have an idea of who it may be, but I could be wrong.

I'll be sure to keep my loved ones closer than my musical idols. So far, I haven't let my music take control of my life.

        Hiya,

Good. I'll be interested to know who you think it is, Dan – and am dreading you being right (still not saying though!!)

Since I am physically disabled it makes more sense to occupy myself mentally than sit wishing I could run the 100 metres, and one of the ways I occupy myself is said stories. I've been described as “half-disabled, half-not” (that's going in one)

To someone who isn't disabled, I suppose it looks like I don't do an awful lot with my life, so my admiration for certain musicians probably looks a lot worse than it actually is.

        • I see where you're coming from with that. I'm not the most athletic person, so I tend to spend the majority of my time doing more artistic things, like drawing and listening to plenty of music!

I understand that you probably do a lot more than some may think you do, because most of my friends think the same of me. It may not be the most productive use of time, but it's certainly the most gratifying for me.

And I'm very curious to find out who this mystery "Siren" could be!

Thom Yorke certainly has an aura about him. I don't know whether it's his mental illness, his physical tics, his destructiveness or his legendary coldness with other celebrities.

Sometimes people don't seem constrained by our rules, don't seem to breathe the same air, see with the same eyes. I think Thom Yorke is one of those. Morrissey is another.

Maynard and Thom were rightfully mentioned, and I also love them both, especially Thom Yorke's work as a solo artist - I think it's unfuckingbelievable - and his collaborations with PJ Harvey, who I adore as well. But seriously, Jack White makes magic! Everything he touches, every musical project he starts, is simply so organic, so natural, so perfect. You can always hear it's a Jack White song, but it is different from the others. The White Stripes, The Racconteurs, The Dead Weather. Plus a couple collaborations like the one with Alicia Keys, can't recall the title now. Yeah, I have my gods and goddesses of music, too. :D

    • Awesome! I love to hear from fellow fans of these greats!

Yes, Jack White is a truly natural, pure, and genius artist! Each band or artist he works with, he gives a unique and beautiful sound and feel to. Oh, and his collaboration with Alicia Keys was the song called "Another Way To Die." :) Which is excellent!

It's very comforting to hear that there are others who appreciate the music Gods as much as I do ^.^

Exactly! Another Way to Die. ^.~

So, out of curiosity, which Jack White band do you fancy the most?

        • I honestly love each band in their own way, they all rock! But, in my personal opinion, I love The White Stripes the best!

There's something about Jack's shredding slide guitar plus Meg's simple, loud, symbol-clashing drumming, that just kills me inside, in a very good way! I LOVE The White Stripes! My favorite songs are Catch Hell Blues, White Moon, and Truth Doesn't Make A Noise. But, I WORSHIP their "Death Letter/Grinnin' In Your Face" live!

          How about you?
