Is it normal to worry about your sanity because of a dream?

Lately, i've been having some strange dreams. They stopped having people in them. I wake up feeling less sane somehow. For example; In my latest dream, I saw nothing but darkness. The whole night, I heard random unrelated words from many different voices. It didn't strike me as odd and I was able to understand what it all meant. I woke up feeling frightened that reason was slipping away. Has anyone else experienced this? Is this normal?

  • Sorry to tell you but people who question their sanity cant be insane because insane people think they are like everyone else sp the fact your questioning it only goes to show you are like everyone else.

do you remember anything that is said in the dreams? also, some say that dreams can change due to changes in mood, stress, or other factors, good and bad.

sometimes I dream I'm a werewolf and I'm killing people in horrible ways and you're worried about your sanity lol...just remember they are dreams and don't really affect who we are in the waking world...as long as you don't let it get to you that its....maybe you'd feel better if you got your dreams analyzed?

I had a dream where I was in this haunted house and had to save this girl, and then the people trying to find us turned into zombies who then tried to eat us! Then I was back at the beginning again and the zombies had turned into Viet Cong and we were in a roadblock. Then I was at Sunday school and then a police raid where I had to plan a surprise party. Then (yes still the same dream) I had to protect my mother from an abuser and when I did I killed him and had to watch as I dismembered him limb by limb.

That dream was AWESOME! Dreaming is fun - you can't control them, and they are just dreams. They're your mind's way of processing the day and your life. Maybe if you're worried, you should go see a therapist to discuss them and see if they have deeper meaning, but seriously, don't be scared of them - embrace them! : )

  • You're perfectly fine and sane. I had the most horrific dreams a while ago and it was the most awful things I'd ever dreamt of, even to the point of waking up because of the dreams content.

I do admit, I wondered if I was sane after that experience but if you are able to ask that question, you are without a doubt sane. An insane person wouldn't have the slightest inclination to ponder their sanity.

That's probably a good way to look at it Miss. It's just scary knowing that dreams are a reflection of the mind. My dreams lately have been unlike (scarier and stranger) any that i've had before. I worry that something has changed about the way my brain works.
