Is it normal to worry about the hygiene of my sexual partners?

Hygiene is very important to me, and I usually want the other person to shower before we have sex, especially if there's oral involved. I'm a bi female, and all of my female partners understood this without me having to bring it up, yet only one of my male partners did.

Is it weird to feel this way? I mean, I'm not a prude or anything, I'll do some nasty shit as long as he/she showers first. But still.

    I'm a guy and I feel the same way. I don't understand how someone could not wash themselves, anyway. That's the odd bit to me.

    There are certain acts which appear in porn films and everyone thinks it's okay because it's in a film, without realising there was a fair amount of disinfecting beforehand. Yes, it's okay if it's safe. But you didn't see the bit where they made it safe. Funnily enough, that didn't make it into the film.

    But most of what we do as human beings is fine regardless of modern inventions like showers or antibacterial agents, because it's what we've always done. I'm not saying sex is safe (it isn't) but sex with someone who cares about their own sexual health usually is.
