Is it normal to wonder who has gotten the most thumbs up on this site.

I have been on this site a short while (mostly observing) and reading comments that make me laugh and some great advice also. But i've been wondering who has gotten the most thumbs up. Who has made consistently funny, insightful, helpful comments.

Maybe the management could even give us a list of the top 20 and how many they received. It may give people incentive to give quality comments.

The incentive should be internal. Giving advice to win merit, in my opinion, is insincere and does not do justice to the purpose of this site.

As the saying goes, "Society honors its dead Rebels and its living Conformists"

Looking for the approval of our peers today is irrelevant.

I do pay attention to post and poll results, comments and replys, but I admittedly do not pay much attention to thumbs up or down.

I think the no-longer-active user Flutterhigh got the most thumbs ups consistently. He was brilliantly funny and smart too. One of the most cantankerous and tumultuous characters to grace this site in my opinion. He was a passionate debater, and liked to philosophize too. I still think about some of the things he would say.

Some of the older posters have 200+ thumbs up on some of their comments

Giving people an extra incentive to collect thumbs will make it less and less likely people will answer honestly. They will instead play up to a persona or say something they imagine might be popular.

Some of the best advice I've seen on the site was by largely unknown commenters and remained staunchly at one thumb.
