Is it normal to wonder where my food came from?

Do you ever wonder this? I do. I think about what country it came from, the farm it was grown on and who picked or processed it. I blame the tv show How It's Made because now it's got me curious about where my food's been and what happened to it before I purchased it or bring it home.

I don't know if it is normal.

I live off of a very small salary. I would love to be able to buy food that has better quality ingredients but it is very difficult from my walk of life. If I were to look into the ingredients of the foods that I eat, I would surely become anorexic.

And no, I am not going to debate with anybody about how I am placing economy above my dietary choices and how I am just making excuses and not trying hard enough and all of that bullshit. So don't bother. I've done it before. I'd rather offer you a seat at the Republican Convention. They'd love someone else to chime in regarding how the poor are worthless and don't try hard enough.

    Sorry for le bitterness.

You should wonder where your food comes from. Just because most people don't, doesn't make it right. We've gotten lazy and careless. And believing cheaper food is actually cheaper is a common misconception. It costs money to ship food, this is why food prices increase whenever oil prices go up? And eating food that lacks the proper nutrition because it's cheaper only means you spend more money on health care. And that's never cheap.

And don't get me started on farm subsidies. All that corn and soy is really not good for us. Nor should we be feeding livestock with so much "filler." The food industry is horrible and irresponsible.

Soy is actually a poison to the system. The Chinese found a way to use it safely, by fermenting it to make soya sauce.
Soy is used in industrial adhesives, solvent, plastics and many others.
And they feed it to us in most foods we buy.

Fermented foods are really good for you. But soy and corn are cheap so they put it in everything whether it needs it or not. Good luck finding something in the US that doesn't contain corn or soy. They even put corn in Advil.

I also wonder the same way, from where my food comes? is it GM Food or not? whether it has gone adulteration ...do it contains pesticides like Endo-Sulfhan and so on.. if we get more deep in to it we can't able to eat anything... If the food seems good and taste good EAT IT!

Because of the way the food industry is and that I have minority dietary choices, I've been forced into becoming a "food detective". Forced is probably the wrong word because I'm never happier than when I'm learning something, although happy is probably also the wrong word as some of the things I discovered are very disturbing.

I do have a pretty good handle on where my food comes from. To the extent that I've often used Google Street View and Satellite view to check out individual sites.

Things that are much harder to track are the components of food which are produced by other companies (i.e. additives).

A brand of canned fish here boasts that they now let you know when, where and how the fish was caught. I personally believe every food producer should make publicly available the source of their ingredients (even if it's only the name of the farm, orchard, chemical company).

The biggest upside of this would be in mapping health issues, outbreaks, and food allergies directly to component ingredients. This used to be simple when we bought our food from farmer's markets over the past thousand years. As the food industry has modernised, we've lost sight of this.

Oh my word! This is a brilliant impression. How did you know that this is exactly how she talks in the privacy of our closet?

Seriously, IIN, this is what she's really like. I'm glad it's finally out in the open. :O

Cool name. Hmm, it looks sort of familiar, though. What inspired it?

To be honest with you I think it is better left unknown. It is not a pretty sight. If you honestly want to watch I can show you some videos. However I will say now I will not go vegan on anyone’s wishes since like it or not we need meat and I think I would be very sick without it. When I say meat I mean chicken , fish ,cow ,eggs, pig, lamb.

    Earth.
So far we haven't any natural foods (ie All foods) from any other solar system or planet.
It comes from Earth and the things living on it.
    Problem solved.

I occasionally wonder exactly the same thing. Regardless of whether or not it's normal, I think it's a good thing to be curious about :)
