Is it normal to wash my hair only once per week? i'm female.

I find that my hair only needs to be washed once a week; any more often, and the natural oils get washed away and my hair gets dry, as I dye my hair to get rid of the grey hairs. Also, I use very good quality shampoo ($US35 per bottle of shampoo and the same for the conditioner - our prices are almost double US prices) and I save serious money by only washing my hair once a week. My hair always looks fine.

If you have dry hair, yes. I suggest washing once or twice a week, but conditioning every day, if you don't already.

    • I never thought of that. What a good idea for dry hair.

I was just talking about this with my two co-workers. I am part Jewish and inherited a Jew-'fro, one co-worker was black and the other was fully European/white.
The white girl washed her hair every other day. The black girl washed her hair once a week. I wash my hair twice a week. I use a shower-cap on the other days, as I shower daily and washing my hair daily would dry/destroy my hair and at best, make me look like Marge Simpson.
The truth is, as long as you shower daily and wash your hair as needed, you are not gross. Every type of hair is different and needs different treatment. I hate it when girls with straight, shiny hair judge on girls with dry hair for not washing it daily.

Hi there. If you don't like soap, at least rinse your hair every day or two. Society will thank you.

Normal if you have a certain hair type--dry, coarse, curly, etc. Mine is oily, fine and wavy so it needs to be washed every other day.

It is completely normal my hairdressers only wash there's once or twice a week as do I , I would recommend some shine spray and a scented one just incase after a week it did pick up a bad smell. I only wash mine once a week since the age of 16 no complaints so far !!

When it comes to hair-washing, a lot depends on age, where you live, your level of activity, etc. When I was in the Navy, I was stationed in Maine and in the wintertime, I didn't have to wash my hair but about twice a week, but in Florida, I had wash it every night. Post-menopausal women don't have to wash their hair as often because their scalp is a lot less oily than that of teens and younger women. Also, if you spend all your time indoors and never perspire, you don't have to wash your hair as often as you do when you spend time outdoors, exercise, and so on.

I get my hair washed once every two weeks. When, i was very young I used to go, i think every wednesday, and that really started to get on my nerves so I work the deal out with my hairdresser and my parent.

I think it's fine. Plus, I used to hear that head lice lived better in frequently cleaned hair.

I know ppl who only need to wash their hair 1 time a week and it looks good all week and other ppl who's hair looks nasty & oily if they skip washing it even 1 day . It depends on your hair type and the kind of products you use or don't use . Some ppl with dry or curly hair don't use shampoo at all. they do what it called cowashing just using condisender to wash it so it doesn't strip what little oil is in their hair but it gets rid of dirt and old product .

Once a week is pushing it for me. I prefer 2-3, or every third day

That just sounds gross seeing as if you take a shit the particles attach to your entire body, after a week I'm sure your hair smells funky along with sweat and whatever else makes it way on you

    • That would mean that you'd have to wash everything in your entire bathroom several times a week: all your makeup bottles, your toothbrush handle, all your combs, hairbrushes, razors, makeup brushes, ... I hope you keep your toothbrush out of the bathroom. Most people don't so the particles of faeces go onto their toothbrushes then into their mouth, but our life expectancy keeps increasing despite it. I've never heard of anyone dying from E.Coli. infection through cleaning their teeth.
I've smelled dirty hair but never hair that smells like poo.
Have you ever studied pathology or epidemiology? Education is the best defense against myth. 500 years ago people thought that magnetism was magic.

So you're trying to dispel my comment because you've never smelled hair that had a shit fragrance to it?. Smells can cling to anything especially if it continually saturated from whatever smells it comes in contact with. I'm glad you just noticed the first half of my comment and decided to go off on some tangent after feeling personally attacked because you felt threaten after I mentioned you have hair that's deadly similar to the walls inside of a porto potty. I merely tried to convey disgust at your penny pinching seeing as you've already felt somewhat insecure and uneasy with your own self to ask. particles making their way in your hair isn't a myth and I don't need to be a a professor on microbiology to say that with confidence.

    • I've smelled thousands of people's hair because I've hugged thousands of people because I'm very social and involved in my community. Thousands of people's hair is a large enough sample size to give me accurate data with a low p value (look a statistics textbook if you don't know what that means). Plus I have been told many times that I have a very sensitive nose. If you smell shit in people's hair, you're hanging around with a bad crowd. In normal western society, which has plumbing, the notion of smelling shit in people's hair is patently absurd. What country do you live in? The more likely reason is that there's some shit up your nose so you smell shit everywhere. You could have wiped your ass than blown your nose without washing your hands.

Unlike you, most people do their business, flush the toilet and get out of the bathroom and they don't allow crap to sit in the toilet long enough to permeate everything in the bathroom!

    • Healthy people who have a healthy diet don't stink out a toilet for 3+ hours so that no one is game to enter. Also, healthy people eliminate quickly. I'm in and out of the toilet in a minute or two. I don't sit there reading the paper for an hour waiting for it all to come out slowly because I'm so constipated. I do find myself wondering why you spend so much time on the toilet doing your number twos.
I've heard many an ignoramus say, "You don't have to have a degree in ______, to know ______". It's certainly true that a great deal of knowledge is gained outside of formal education. However, a geologist knows more about rocks than a layperson. As someone who studied pathology, microbiology and epidemiology at one of the best colleges in my country (and got good grades), it's safe to say that I know a lot more about what you're speaking of than you, who admit to never having studied any of that stuff. The only way someone like you every gets to talk to someone like me is over the internet because we would never cross paths IRL.

Oh Jesus, you seem so relentlessly conceited that I wouldn't bother to ever talk to someone like you IRL. If you're so educated on this subject and set on denying this then do you care to give any factual evidence supporting your ideas? you know because I'm such a ignoramus and all because I challenged your bullshit unsupported lies.
