Is it normal to want your adult child to not come back home?

My daughter is attending college out of state. She says she wants to come back home after graduating. The thing is, she has a great job in the field she is studying in. She just doesnt like the winters there. Way toooo cold.

I love her with all my heart, but we get along better when we don't live together. I feel terrible thinking I want her to stay there.

Has anyone else encountered this?

I think it would be ok to let her know that you would prefer if she made it on her own. Perhaps throw in a "I'm there if you need me" but also make it clear that she is old enough to take care of herself now.

Sometimes people need a hand in rough times, but some kids just never leave home.

send her some money so she can live there. That way you don't end up hating each other.

My cousin bought an investment unit, lived in it for 6 mths and moved back in with my aunt and uncle. She turned 28 this year....and her bf of 7 years chose his mates to live with him over her, saying he feels bad to kick them out. Hrmmm... I wonder if the problem is the bf or her choice to not move out of her parents place.

I had the same feelings with one of my kids. It is pretty normal but it sure makes for a lot of parental guilt. For me, not allowing him to come back was the lesser of two evils. I've learned to live with it.

Yup, don't let her back. She's all grown up now.

Tell her that unless she's super poor and starving for days then she can manage on her own.
