Is it normal to want to make a huge deal over a $10 rent increase?

I just got a notice that my rent is going up by $10 in January.

I'm planning on moving anyway, so I had this bright idea to make a HUGE deal over the $10 increase and blame my moving on that.

Hey, what the heck? I love a good joke and I think it would be funny. I can't wait to see the reaction of the landlord. This is gonna be great.

I do stuff like this all the time. For instance, a restaurant I used to go to stopped giving out free refills on soda so I quit going there. That's just one of many similar examples. Although that example is actually legit, I refuse to pay for soda refills. The rent increase is semi-legit, I don't think it's worth it to pay more to live in this dump but I was already planning on moving anyway.

is it normal to do this type of stuff?

    • Duh, that's the joke. I'm moving anyway and it would be funny to flip out on the landlord over a paltry $10.

This is something my father would do. So funny.

I've never understood the free refill thing. Why is it different than other stuff where you pay for what you consume?

And why would anyone buy a big drink when you can have lots of smaller ones?

It really confuses me. Is there a limit on the number of refills? Or do they make it difficult to get them?
