Is it normal to want to kiss friends on the cheek?

When I was young--around the second grade-- I thought it was normal to kiss friends on the cheek, because I saw my friends as family and that's what I did with my family. Then, one day, their parents told me to stop.

Now, I still have the urge to give my friends a kiss on the cheek or the forehead because I love them so much. It's the same kind of urge I get when I want to kiss puppies...

Is this normal? And is it okay?

You should ask your friends if they don't mind, explain that for you it's normal and a sign that you care for them, and only continue to do it if they think it's ok. But keep in mind that even if you explain they could say they're still not confortable with it and you should respect that.

Kisses are lovely but if they are not welcome then they become pointless.
(the kiss must be appreciated by both people involved, if not, then it's just annoying the other person)

If there's a cultural difference maybe you should explain, specially to the parents who are concerned (how old are you all? Why do parents get involvddin this?)

I've had people kiss me that way during a casual hug when greeting a friend. I didn't have a problem with it. I knew it wasn't sexual or romantic, it was an affectionate kiss from a friend, like you say "kissing a puppy", and it made me feel liked. I say if that's how you feel about somebody then keep doing it. It doesn't hurt anything and some people really need that. I've seen people in Europe greet each other with a kiss on both cheeks and I like it, although for me being American it would take a while for me to get used to it. I think it's an appropriate form of touch and people actually need more "appropriate" touch in our society. It would be healthier for us.

Where I'm originally from that's normal, but it suspect it would be frowned on where I live now.

I'd say if that's how you feel then just do it, your friends will get used to it. Like I said where I'm from that's a customary way to great someone so my point of view might just be skewed.

And yes I am French :)

Yeah I felt that urge before with only my closet friends and my sister, and like what you said, it was like wanting to hug and kiss a puppy :)
