Is it normal to want to hide yourself from society?

Recently I have had the urge to close every account I've ever created. I've removed my Facebook, twitter, and YouTube. I don't really know the reasoning behind this. I never really used Facebook that much, but knowing no one can see my profile gives me relief.

I have done the same thing, closing most of my social network accounts. I also want to move away, where nobody knows me

Is this really your only sense of reality? Seriously you do not know anyone or anything on the outside world? You act like the internet is the only world there is. While I am not complaining about people who spend all of their life on the computer it is not like its the only thing. People do exists in the world.

How are you closing yourself off by shutting off the damn computer? You are putting yourself back in the real world. I dont see how you think turning off the world is going to end the world as you know it suddenly everyone will die. Since they wont.

They have people outside unless maybe you are in the arctic. Not a lot of people want to live in that area but people still do. Which confuses me but hey its those peoples choice to live how they wish. Who am I to question right? Yeah maybe you should shut off your computer and get a grip.

A lot of us are on the computer but unlike you we realize that a world does exists outside it. Some of us just prefer to ignore it or just don't know how to be part of it. We are not denying that it exists like you seem to be. Get some air and time away from your computer.

LOL! This should be an automatic message that flashes on the screen periodically after someone has been social media obsessing too long

Yeah. I believe having all these new medium of communication has its good and bad effect. Although I am in Facebook to be able to get in touch with friends, family, and etc some of the people often post freakin' annoying and non-sense stuff which makes me sick.

Oh, yes. I feel the same way sometimes. Like i sort of want to delete myself from the world. But not in a suicidal way, though! Just like i want to be forgotten by everybody. Like a hermit. :)

I actually did this about a year ago. I know exactly how you feel. I became paranoid that people would know about my life when a year before that I wanted all the attention I could get. It's strange. I think it was a mixture of embarassment from lack of change at a time when everyone else was going through changes(everyone went away for college, I stayed close to home) and a feeling of need for maturity and having social media would tempt me to do unproductive things.

  • I deleted everyone from Facebook except for about two. Somehow it went up to about five. I think I should delete a few more again.

With my social media accounts, I don't have the urge to hide away from them. I barely post anything personal except my interests on the things I reblog. It's vice-versa for me. I often feel like hiding from the outside world. I'm already a bit of a recluse.

I've had the urge to close my social media accounts too. But I don't want to hide from society. It's just that the internet has caused me to lose faith in the intelligence of humanity.
