Is it normal to want to grow my hair past my shoulders?

I'm a guy, and I want to grow my hair to see how long it goes before I have to cut it. Some friends are starting to think I should cut my hair before "it becomes as long as women hair."

Now, I'm not going to ask about hair length in relation to gender. I don't think it's a gender thing.

So, in a nutshell: straight guy, long hair, wants to grow it longer. IIN?

    In the olden days, it was common and STYLISH for men to have long hair. I think that it looks sexy and masculine, and a lot of women agree. Try looking for chicks in the metal scene, they love long hair.

    I have long hair that goes down past my shoulders and I too get judge for it being so long- but I say to them: fuck you, if it was s'posed to be short then it would stop growing.
    The way I see it is I can pull my hair back for cooler temps and keep it down in the colder parts of the year- and IMO it doesn't make you any hotter in the summer. About the only down sides are- longer showers( if you consider that a downside), the occasional hair in your mouth, it can be annoying in windy weather, and combing can be painful if yours is as curly as mine.

      oh and do what what I do with my hair, use a wide tooth comb and start at the bottom, Trust me it helps lol. My husband got lucky his hair is straight and smooth.

    I JUST cut my hair for the first time in about 4 years (I'm a guy) Was well past my shoulders...

    Gone pretty short now mainly for a change & because, to be honest, long hair is fucking hard work!
    Gives you a new appreciation for those chicks with really long hair when you start to realise how much effort is involved!

    & no doubt you may get some wierd looks or even taunts from friends, workmates, etc but as long as you're happy stick with it.

    Its completely normal to feel that way :3 im a girl and when i was younger i cut my hair REALLY short like to the point that i looked like a boy :/ but i finally grew it all back out lol also the love of my life (my current boyfreind) has shoulder length hair and i assure u hes completely and totally straight ;)))

    I love long hair on a man. Especially if he has a chiseled manly face and is tall or very tall. I prefer it

    A small historical fact,
    Long hair was the symbol of a free man during the Archaic period, and was adopted by the ancient Spartans who kept this meaning intact, as well as long hair being one of their traits as a race.
    if you want, you can see hair as a further characteristic of your face, like your nose or ears.
    Don't be afraid to experiment,
    You'll never know if it suits you
    if you don't try,
    and don't listen to anyone if you have already decided.

    But if you really want to grow them, there will be a short period that your hair will not obey you(it won't be able to decide if it's long or short)
    , but as it gets longer,(in 5-7 months)
    it takes a shape.
