Is it normal to want to get my tubes tied at age 21?

I'm 21 and I've never had a kid. I don't want one either. Is it normal to realize you want your tubes tied at this age? Also is there anywhere in Ohio or surrounding area that will tie my tubes without me having a child?

Yeah no, this isn't normal. I mean I guess it's normal to think this way because I know 90% of people tend to not want children but look at our world, most people have them. I personally always wanted children as I adore them and would love to teach them and watch them grow into beautiful adults and have some of me always alive in the world as I carry on my genes.

My friend actually hated children and by hated, I mean HATED. She would nag about having to babysit, tell me she could never picture herself with children and said they were ugly annoying creatures and she wanted to have a "relaxed" life. A bit selfish if you ask me but guess what? She has a child now and it was planned. People grow up and mature and then change their mind. At 21, your brain isn't even fully developed. When you're in your mid or late twenties, there's a higher change you'd change your mind because you'll be a completely different person by then.

I think you should absolutely not get your tubes tied because it's really not worth it. If you're sexually active, just go on birth control. Having your tubes tied is not something a young person should ever consider, that's for people who are much older.

  • You're only 21, think about it for a year before actually doing it. Some people don't want kids when they are young and say they would never want one and then later on in life they want one.

Don't listen to these people. You know your mind better than anyone else.

Honey, as far as I'M concerned, you're not too young at all. You're a grown woman and you have every right to get sterilized if you desire it. If anything, people under 30 are too young to WANT/HAVE kids. But that's just my opinion.

It's a very permanent solution to a problem that doesn't really exist. There are plenty of ways to not have a baby which are far less permanent.

Getting a contraceptive implant is a much better idea, I think. It's still a long term procedure, but it's not permanent because it can be taken out and it may expire after about 10 years. It doesn't have the symbolism that you might get from a permanent operation, but it's far more practical. One of my friends has one and she doesn't regret it at all.

It's too early to make such a majestic decision imo. You may want to think about it for a good amount of years

  • Well, I wouldn't say you're abnormal. I'm 19 and in a serious relationship and until I met my boyfiend and actually started to think about the future and family and kids and stuff, I also wanted to be sterilised. I still plan on having a complete hysterectomy when we've had kids because all a uterus is good for is carrying a child, other than that it putsus women through absolute shit. However, your reasons for wanting surgical sterilisation are purely for birth control reasons, right? Why don't you opt for a long term method of birth control, like the implant which lasts 3 years, the IUD which lasts 5 years, and if you're completely against hormonal BC the copper IUD is hormone free and lasts 8 to 10 years. Chances are if by that time you still don't want kids, you're not going to want kids. Not many people wake up one morning nearing their 30's and suddenly decide to want a baby after previously never wanting one. If you're in your late twenties and still don't want children I'm sure you'll find a surgeon that will tie your tubes for you. Keep in mind though that this will have some weird effects on your periods and if you're getting it done young you'll have years more to go before you hit menopause and won't need to deal with periods anymore.

I do have a strong relationship with a lovely older man. He wants kids more than just about anything. At least if I do get pregnant, I know he would want to take care of it

Lol do they even do that to people so young? I don't think they'd recommend it at all and i'd say it's normal to think this way but you'll actually probably change your mind. I don't know very many people around 21 or under who want kids. Heck, my sister hated kids all her life, didn't understand how anyone could have them and laughed when my mother and I teased her about having a baby later in life but when she hit 30, I think she just matured and finally realized why people wanted kids because she married at 29 and then boom, two beautiful children were born when she was 31 and she couldn't be happier.

I think this is normal. I've had a point in my life when I didn't want kids at all but now I'm 50/50 because I'm growing up. :)
