Is it normal to want to cry when i think about octopuses

Whenever I think about an octopus I get a horrible crindgy feeling, I feel sick and then feel like crying. Usually when I get to this point, I stop thinking about them but I have cried before and I'm sure if I thought about it enough I would be sick. I don't know what it is, they just repulse me. I get the same with slugs too.

Watch this video. If you still hate octopuses after watching that, then you are a heartless monster!

Octopi are so amazing, though! Aside from the heart-warming things that Space Ghost wrote, they're truly intelligent, fascinating creatures!

An octopus can change it's color, shape, even the texture of its skin. They're highly intelligent and really interesting, and pose extremely little to no threat to people, depending on the type.

I suppose it doesn't help much to hear all this, though... but maybe just a little bit? I'm deathly afraid of bugs myself. To the point where a roach crawling near me can cause me to lock up entirely and get cold-shivers and be unable to move or breathe properly. I understand phobias, and they're not fun... but the few bugs I've slowly grown to be able to tolerate are the ones that people have explained a lot about to me.

I think one of the main triggers of my phobia is lack of understanding. I can't understand what motivates most bugs, why they crawl where they do, where they're going to go next, etc. but when I learn more about individual ones that aren't AS creepy as others (say, a butterfly or dung beetle as compared to a centipede or cockroach) I can sometimes think "Oh, it's just a butterfly doing its thing with flowers" and not get too freaked out.

Maybe learning a bit about octopi could help in the same way? As much as I hate bugs, I have to admit some are fascinating. As much as you hate octopi, perhaps learning about them more could be "confronting your fear" in a way. Plus you'd be free to stop reading your webpage, or watching your program about them if it got to be too much. Hope this helps a little!

Agreed. Amazing creatures. I have a tattooo of an octopus on my back where i was bitten by one. Alot of people don't know they have beak for a mouth to eat hard shelled prey. I was in the keys when i was younger and caught one on a fishing pole ( yes it is possible, i've caught 2) i thought i would be funny to throw it over my shoulder and run into the hotel screaming like i was being attacked by something. Well, the fucker bit the shit out of me.

Oh, they can fit through a hole the size of their eye too.

It's probably a phobia. Allot of octopuses and squids are creepy. Especially, the ones found in the deep darkness of the ocean O.0 even the cuttlefish is strange. There's only been a few exceptions with the invertebrates. One was a little squid? I saw at the zoo. I felt like giving it a cuddle. It's normal to have a phobia. I'm scared of water and the ocean.

Octopi are freaking badass. I saw a video of one stealing some diver's camera and taking off with it, and I was amazed and amused. I want one as a pet!
