Is it normal to want to bite your hand...?

I get the urge to bite my hand, or sometimes my arm, if the following happens:
- someone scratches a chalkboard with their nails, and i see and hear it.

- someone bites their sweatshirt, or shirt, then pulls it out of their mouth (while still biting down).

. these things, (among a few other similar things) really REALLY make me cringe and my teeth feel all weird, so i bite my skin to make me feel better. is this weird/normal...?

also, it doesnt matter, if its me or another person that does the act, i still find the need to bite down on my skin.

It's a normal reaction to cringey things. You want to kind of distract yourself from it. It's not too healthy though.

It sounds like you may have an anxiety or some other social-emotional disorder (less likely, but still possible, is that you are on the Autism Spectrum and seeking out self-stimulation).

My opinion: The pain that you get from biting your hand releases endorphins which basically serve as a morphine-producer to your system. It is likely that your body is now seeking out the release of these endorphins and that you have developed various "triggers" that make you feel compelled to engage in the biting behavior.

You should likely see a Psychiatrist and hopefully they can help you with some relaxation techniques and/or medication therapy that can get you away from the self-harming behaviors.

i dont bite my hand hard...at all, actually. its just the urge to have my teeth touch something to counteract the sound. (weird, i know). so yea, the bite is more of a super soft pressing down of the teeth.

Just a reaction to sensitivity. And yes, not too hard, though anything's normal, just not common.
