Is it normal to want to be really close to my boyfriend's mom?

I've been dating my boyfriend for just over a year and have gone through some really tough times, which have involved his family (mainly supporting us through the tough times).
I saw a really nice side to his mother during these times and now I really want to be super close to her, like a surrogate daughter. But I am scared that if I invite her out to lunch or something it will look needy. I don't know how she feels about me (I know she likes me but I don't know if she might also be wanting to get closer to me too or likes things the way they are).

Please help!

If you invite her out to lunch, I'd imagine she'd see it as a very positive thing. There's a difference between neediness and building relationships. You don't sound needy to me. In fact, you come across very well in your story and I'd hope that your boyfriend's mother feels the same and feels lucky that you're part of her son's life, and part of hers.

Go for it. Invite her to lunch. :)

Go ahead and invite her. Who knows, she may be your mother in law someday.

Invite her for lunch, girls night out, shopping, tennis or anything. Don't bring your boyfriend. Your not needy just do it

    • Why not invite the boyfriend? That would seem kinda rude.
