Hey, I'm a twenty-year-old girl who goes to college right now. My friend's dream is to go to med school and become a doctor, but I right now I just want to get a job at like one of those clothing stores at the mall and be one of those attractive girls that say "Welcome to xxx, is there anything I can help you with?" Is this normal? I feel at this age your dream should be something bigger but really I just want to be one of those cute girls who wear pretty clothes and nice make-up working at the clothing stores or one of those attractive baristas at a nice restaurant....

    If you're pretty then it would be a waste for you not be used for decoration, in addition to whatever other function you serve (greeting customers, serving them, etc.) And I'm not even saying this sarcastically or as a putdown; we all have functions and one of the main functions of pretty girls in society (or of the girls who can be prettied up with makeup or sexy clothing) is decoration: for their men, for businesses, and so on -- the guys like to look at them, and they make places more welcoming and enjoyable for everybody.

    I work retail. It's pretty good...except mall jobs have high demands and erratic hours.
