Is it normal to want to be more feminine, but i'm afraid to?

I feel confused about my gender identity. I want to be interested in fashion and grow out my hair, I like being open about my feelings and I sure as hell like cute stuff, but I'm afraid to. Would my friends even like me anymore if I came out as trans? I feel weird about it.

You can be gradual about it to test the water. Nobody is saying you have to go full-blown drag queen overnight. Growing your hair is a slow process.

There's degrees of masculinity and femininity, they're relative terms. You could just try metrosexual clothes to begin with, clothes which are still clearly mens' but have a bit of fashionable quirk to them. If you like that, you could then move onto experimenting with androgynous clothing, before eventually going full fem.

Going about it slow and gradual might also be a better way to gauge your comfort levels and gain confidence. If you try going the full flashy and dramatic all at once, it might overwhelm you and you will be visibly uncomfortable doing it.

But have fun with it, experiment. There's never been a more liberal time for gender-nonconforming people to be themselves.

You didn't really mention anything about being trans until the very end. The beginning, the stuff you talk about, guys can do that stuff, too, there's nothing wrong with that. It just goes against the gender norm, to a degree. But plenty of guys are into fashion, have long hair and like cute things. That's not really being "trans," at least not from the way I've been led to understand, it's just liking what you like.

I'm not sure, but I can tell you now long hair on a man is about the sexiest thing I ever did see.

Masculinity must really not be appealing to kids nowadays. Accepting who you are is difficult, especially for a teenager, but it is the path that will lead you towards a content and happy life.

Pursue styles, be effeminate, be a metrosexual—just don't pretend that you will ever be able to trick yourself into thinking you're something that you aren't. You are far too clever.

Just because you have qualities and tastes which are stereotypically "feminine" does not mean you are trans. This widespread false belief is creating huge wealth for shrinks, surgeon and manufacturers of dangerous artificial hormones.

Just be whatever and whoever you are and if that's not accepted where you live find a supportive community elsewhere. You don't have to dive in the gender deep end: make the small changes others have suggested and see how you feel and how others respond.

Your appearence has nothing to do with them. People who truly love you will accept you the way you are.

I just feel like despite this really being how I feel, it would just make my life more awkward.
