Is it normal to want to be lonely on ur birthday?

I turned 20 today and only have a few friends of my own, I usually hang out with my bf's friends when he's home, but he went to work at 7am and I'm completely depressed but if i can't spend it with him I don't even want to bother trying to get a hold of any if my friends, I'd rather just lay in bed and be depressed...has anyone else felt or experienced this?

1)Bake yourself a delicious chocolate cake.
    2) Invite people to come and taste your delicious chocolate cake.
    3) Eat the delicious chocolate cake.
    4) When the people arrive, tell them there's no chocolate cake.

    Happy birthday Boo ;)!

I think it's normal. I had the same kind of experience too.

It was my seventeenth birthday. I had a cold war with a very close friend. When the other friends of mine asked me if I still wanted to invite that close friend to my birthday party, I said I didn't want to have the party anymore and I called it off. I spent my birthday alone.

If you really don't feel like spending your birthday with your friends, then don't. It's no good to force yourself. Birthday should be a day which you can enjoy your time and do whatever you like.

However, I would suggest that you may do something else besides laying in bed and waiting for time to pass. There're many things you can do on your own. Watch your favorite movie or watch a comedy at home to make yourself relax and laugh a little? Enjoy some food you love? Take a stroll on the street and breathe some fresh air? Listen to your favorite band/singer?

And you may want to try out something new (but personal) on your birthday, such as open a new diary or tidy up or redecorate your room/house?

At any rate, being alone doesn't mean that you have to be depressed or lonely!

    Happy Birthday! :)

I always spend my birthday alone. I'm 18 now, but I don't think a lot of 'younger' people do that tho..

    • I am the same way, most people dont even know when mine is and I dont ever tell anyone, because basically I dont care either.

Especially regarding the office, for the love of God I cant stand the ridiculously phony office parties for someone's "birthday". As if its not really an excuse to just not work.

How do you get one of those office jobs? This security job bores the living shit out of me. I'd rather be bored and doing something constructive on a 9 to 5 basis.

        • Well you have to work for government, where there is almost no accountability and certainly no profit margins or deadlines. In fact I havent even had a performance review in over 4 yrs and we are supposed to get one every 6 months. I have seen people physically asleep at their desks. State government is what I recommend, which is where I work. My job isnt great, but I make almost $75K and waste extraordinary amounts of time during the day.

Stay in school for sure, and with government you may have to start low and move up. I kinda go a lil lucky with my gig. But I also have a graduate degree.

I kinda feel like you're wanting someone to stand up and realise and spend time with you on your special day without you asking. I think you want to feel important to people other than your boyfriend. I get like that too. I don't tell people when my birthday is coz I don't want to ask for attention but I would like the acknowledgment? It's an odd one!
