Is it normal to want to be anorexic...

So I'm an overweight, teenage girl, and I honestly want to be anorexic, not so far that I weigh like..60 pounds and I'm about to die, but I for some reason like the look of hip bones and I love the feeling of them... So I want to be anorexic, or just very skinny, is this normal?

Wanting to be skinny is completely normal, but please do not starve yourself. Trust me, I've been down the anorexia path and it's not something that you want to experience. There are definately better ways to go about it.
    Look after yourself

Thing is, I have been eating healthy and exercising my entire life, I hate junk food and I've been in competative sports since I was 7, and I still have my flabby belly and everything

I had that same problem, that belly is mostly untoned muscle honestly, consult an exercise guide on what is best for you to tone your muscle,, honestly, if you exercise and eat right, that belly will go down

Why don't you join Weight Watchers and lose some weight in a healthy way. They tell you where the secret calories are, for you to avoid.

It's better to eat naturally rather than processed foods and to cut down on breads too.

Good luck - but don't overdo it, or you'll get ill.

It is a normal desire, but you shouldn't do it. Google all the side effects of anorexia and you'll surely change your mind.

Hi sorry for the presumption but the things you've written really resonate with what ive felt before and i wanna say I'm here if u need an impartial ear and that the more you talk about the pain when it hits, be it to the samaritans(who r 24/7,confidential and saved my life) or imalive(dot)org, Crisischat both of which u can textchat online, the more the pain and anxiety lessens. You can move past this but you don't have to fight alone, lean on others and the stronger and happier you become. I'm here, keep talking you can beat this

In a way I get what you mean. As an overweight person you obviously envy the fact anorexia sufferers have no problem abstaining from overeating. I have been in the same boat. However Anorexia is not just a physical state but a mental condition. Being anorexic is not healthy and is not a condition to be admired.

You are such a fool. People like you make me sick. Do you have any idea what you are wishing on yourself? Anorexia is a deadly disease, ok? Cancer makes you lose weight, do you want that?

I am. A part of me enjoys the feeling of losing weight and the other finds it stressful. When you live with family that's obsessed with food and you start losing weight, it can become very stressful. Getting made fun of and getting threats of being sent off to the hospital isn't a nice thing. I know it can have ramifications, but I still want to reach my goal. I had decided to gain a little weight, but it's hard and I can't seem to stop losing...

If you loose weight, try to do it healthy. Eat smaller proportions, exercise if you can, Fruits,Veggies and authentic greek yogurt. Drink tea and coffee. I do most of that, but I barely exercise and often eat two meals a day. DON'T become dependent on vomiting! Bulimia can be very dangerous. There's the risk of the acid eventually tearing a hole through the esophagus. I have friend that has it and a few months ago she told me that she had been coughing up blood. I managed to persuade her to stop vomiting, but eat healthier instead. Cut out fast food and going out to eat. Take up bicycling or tennis.

Be safe about it and good luck!

    • I do the same as you.. smaller portions, very little, but I also exercise more than you it seems. I pursue healthy living. BUT I'm overweight, and big for my height. I'm starting to get plagued with it... because I seem to be doing everything right.

Maybe my thyroid, anti depressants... and also definitely genetics. Still annoying though

Anti-depressants? Some of them can increase appetite and cause other issues. That's probably why you can't lose anything.

i feel like you :O i like hip bones and collarbones sticking out.. i don't know if it's normal or not.
i lost weight very fast and gained half of it back just as fast as i lost it. i think starving yourself isn't going to help b/c the weight that you get rid of will eventually come back :/

I think its very normal too. I love the way it feels but only on certain parts of my body. I like my stomach to be tight so I lotion it daily and of course I work out and Im vegan so that helps too. I want my butt and breasts to look round and toned but still have that bounce guys love so I dont work those out much I love to tone my arms and legs to get those scooped muscle lines I love so much and isnt this what every women wants? to be curvy and toned? I still have perky breasts and a toned round butt but everything else is solid. Its the best of both worlds. Not to mention the longer hair better skin and nails that comes with a vegan diet and the extra dose of energy I have all day from working out. Go vegan. Workout. Target the areas you want to tone and you will achieve the phyisic you desire. That simple. Just in case you were wondering I am 5'4 and 115 and I love seeing my hip bones my tight stomach my toned legs and arms...trust me trade junk food for vegan and you could eat all day literally just not when your full and just take one hour out of your day to workout. 1 hour and trust me it will be well worth it in a month or so.

I hardly eat junk food though, and I do zumba almost every day an hour and a half and I see no results.
And now that I exercise more I can't get rid of the weight, but when I used to pretty much starve and harldy exercised I would see changes. It kinda feels like I'm stuck in the same place and no matter what I do I can't change the way my body looks. Maybe I'm not doing enough but then again, zumba makes me sweat so much and I feel healthy afterwards.

why don't you stop eating like a hog and start working out?

I've known an anorexic with bulimia (for that extra umph). It was really pathetic. She's almost died trying to puke by lodging a toothbrush into her CHEST. Why don't you give it a whorl and you know, then make your decision.
