Is it normal to want to be an artist but have little desire to try?

I have wanted to be an artist since I was three. Now 23, wondering if is it normal to still want to be an artist but continue to find it very difficult to sit and draw, paint, or create ANYTHING with satisfaction or patience. Opinions?

    YOU'RE NORMAL.
I'm like this too, and what I've realized is that not every painting has to be perfect.

I mostly just like experimenting with my painting/drawing rather than laboring over it. Art comes in many forms--even forms that don't involve getting every detail right.

No, it's so hard to just sit and do it. It can be the thing you want the most in the world, but if you don't have the drive to do it it won't happen. It's a major case of laziness/lack of inspiration most of the time. Procrastination can have a hand in it too.

All you need is a bit of inspiration, look at other peoples work and talk to others that have the same interests even online, youtube can be good, depending on your style or if you are like me you might have to isolate yourself from everything........Good luck!

Practice, practice, practice. I'm an artist and some days I have to force myself to get to it because I'm easily distracted, but once I'm doing it, it's difficult to put it down.

Take a course or two to help you get back into it. Or hire a life coach to help you map out your intentions for your art and set reachable goals.

Shawn Barber has written an interesting blurb under the FAQ section of his website. Check it out, it might help you.

U lack the drive to do it
In most cases, this will end with u not becoming an artist soely because u lacked the motivation

Ur being lazy. Its very rare to find someone gifted with the talent. Most artists had to work to become great, and to create good art u must give it your all. If u find it hard to take the time to make art, then save yourself the time and stop because its not going to happen
If it means enough youll make it happen
If it doesnt, then you wont.

When I was small I wished to be an Artist
But slowly I just stopped drawing
I figure that when you were small, Imagination was broader than as you get older and adjust to reality

Now I believe drawing as a talent than a profession
Face it, you don't get much money

If you don't have a desire to try
Its like saying you want money but you don't want to work
