Is it normal to want to be an american?

I live in a (wealthy...ish) country in Africa. It's great here.. But I've always wanted to be an American. I use American English when I talk. I type 'customize' instead of 'customise'. I've developed somewhat of a US accent. I've been to the States a shitload of times.. But have never had the guts to move there permantly. I'm more up to date with US news than the news on my own country. Is it normal to want to be a part of a different country and leave my country (and friends and family) behind?

America or any European country can offer you better opportunities. That's probably why it is so appealing. I find it completely normal seeing as I am a patriot for Russia though I live in a different country.

This is not unusual for an individual outside the United States. If you decided to move to the U.S., please do it legally with a passport and go through naturalization of citizenship. Don't stay here on an expired visa, Americans are already peeved off at the illegals as it is.

This is a bit late reply, but i have to reply to this ridiculous comment.. "this is not unusual for an individual outside the United States".
      Typical arrogant American or what?
Not everyone wants to live in the United States.
I can name plenty of other countries i would rather live.
Countries where people aren't allowed to have guns for example.
      Countries with health insurance.
I'd be cool with living in most European countries and some Asian countries, i would choose many of those above the United States.

I was born in Nigeria and love my homeland. But I am so happy to be in America because of the opportunities. Have love for your country.

Americans are fine (though it sucked when I went to high school there). I just wish they'd stop killing people. Canadians are awesome though

Trust me, you do not want to live in the US. It really sucks here and I wish I could move away to another country because it's so bad here. I hate living in America. It may be fun to visit but to live here is shitty!!!

I think it's normal for someone to want to live somewhere other than their home country. The fantasy of a new place and culture. Especially a place with beliefs and traditions you feel more attuned to.
Plus, America is the ONLY country (expect Canada I suppose) where you can become an American. But if you move to Germany, or France you'll never BE a German. You'll just be a citizen.
