Is it normal to want something and not do anything about it?

I want to do many things like work, play the piano, and write stories. I can get started, but I will just stop doing it. I really want to do these things. I know I have to go for it and keep trying. I don't know what's stopping me. I don't know if this laziness or what.

Lot's of people have this problem. I would say part of it is laziness, but there might be something more. Do you think you fear failure?

This has got to be normal. I feel the same way whenever I have free time. I want to do all these things, but I can't get started, and if my some chance I do, my motivation usually ends the next day.

  • You lack motivation. Lots of people do.

I lose my motivation very easily. Sometimes, it only lasts for a few minutes. I like to write it all down and the reasons why I want to do what I want to do, so that I can re-motivate myself.

It's laziness, I have the same issues. I have about 3 unfinished books on my computer, and probably about half a dozen that I deleted in a rage because I hated what I wrote. It's really good to start writing with an idea.

Don't write what's already been written because no one is going to want to read it. Or if you are, at least make it original, and not just think you're making it original. Also if you ever want to be successful with writing you need to find your "voice" as they call it.

With the instruments, I don't know. I have a piano, some drums, and a ukulele (lol) and have never learned any of them.

Also it's not motivational problems if you don't have an issue starting (at least, I wouldn't think?). It's being too lazy to continue.

Really though, I don't know, could be either one.

    Good luck!

PS, most importantly, if you're going to write, don't waste your time trying to get published until you at least have 2-5 other people look over it and make their own edits. So make sure it's people who have a good (preferably better) grasp on technical writing than you do. As in, knows where the best place to put a comma, choice of words, knowing "there, their, and they're", knowing the difference between "then" and "than" etc. Not saying you don't know these things, but every writer in the world needs an editor.
