Is it normal to want myself to starve?

I have been wanting to lose weight for a while, and finally started. I work out when I can, which is everyday. And I am constantly trying to workout until im so tired and sore that I can't walk down the stairs without stopping to rest my sore spots. But another thing I have done is stopped eating, only eating once or twice a day. In the morning of course, but Ill have a few bites of something and then I stop eating completely(Ignoring my growling stomach) until dinner which I also don't eat much of. Another thing is, even though my stomach growls, I really don't want to eat. I just don't feel like it. Have no patience to do it. But I want to loose weight, and its working! But is this healthy to want to teach my body to not eat so much? Is it healthy at all? Will my body go into starvation mode? Help please?

No don't starve yourself, eating disorders are not fun. It's not safe, you won't lose weight you'll just make yourself sick. The weight you lose from doing this will come back.

    OP, you're scaring me.
I have seen extreme weight loss in action, and it is not pretty. I've have anorexic, bulimic, and binge-eating friends, and none of them did well at all before they got psychological help. Please Google all three of those terms if they sound unfamiliar.
I'm not a shrink, but you don't sound very healthy to me - physically or mentally. I'm on track to go to medical school, and I can say that by working out to that point of being unable to walk long distances, you're probably damaging your bones and joints, and if you do it every day, your muscles don't have time to rebuild. And even if they did have the time to get stronger, they don't have the energy for it, because you aren't eating to give them fuel for repairwork.
Psychologically, it sounds like you're trying very hard to control yourself. I get that; I have obsessive-compulsive disorder, which is all about control and fear. But when the desire to control gets, well, out of control, it's not good for you.
I suggest that you seek some counseling so you can find other ways to feel good and in control. Most towns, even very small ones, have a community counseling center that offers services on a sliding scale, so even if you're flat broke, you can afford to go there. Counseling isn't scary or weird, and I'm by no means calling you crazy. I think you'd just feel better about all of this if you had someone friendly and nonjudgmental to talk to.
As for the weight loss thing.
When you are hungry, eat something your grandparents would recognize - like fruit, vegetables, meat, and bread, not Cheetos, premade pizza, Hot Pockets, Gatorade, or whatever. When you are not hungry anymore, stop eating.
Exercise for thirty minutes to an hour once a day. Something that gets your heart going fast and makes you sweat a little is all you need. Go jogging, play games, rock-climbing, dancing, whatever. That's all that you need to be healthy, and probably all that you need to lose weight.
And why is it so important to lose weight in the first place? I used to stress out over that a lot, too, and then I realized that it's more important to be comfortable with myself. I can run a few miles, dance for a few hours, and swim like nobody's business, so I'm in good shape, but I'm not skinny. I've got a little extra jiggle going on, but I know that it's more important to be happy with myself and enjoy life.
Please eat! Be kind to yourself! Good luck!

When I started my quest to lose weight a few months ago I usually went to bed hungry. I ate like maybe 3 meals a day; a bowl of cheerios in the morning, some chicken breast with vegetables in the afternoon, and an apple at night. To be honest I still usually eat like this because my goal isn't over yet. However, I make sure I don't go to bed hungry, just with a little food in my stomach. I eat more snacks, like another apple or a granola somewhere in between. I should also point out that I go the gym every day, similar to yourself. Why am I telling you this? Because honestly, I know that no amount of advice is probably going to change your lifestyle. You want to lose weight and you're already seeing results, so in you're mind that's good. But I think you know, like I know, that starvation isn't healthy at all. But I also that you're not going to change. I hope that when you see yourself losing weight that you'll slowly go into a more comfortable pattern of eating. It's alright to have pizza every now and then, just not like every day. And like I said it's alright to have small snacks in between.

If you want some tips for eating right here's a video that I think is pretty good. I follow what this guy says and those aren't some bad tips honestly.

    Here's another one about starvation.

A few things. This is probably the most effective way to lose weight really fast. The problem is that it gets addictive because once you realise that you don't really *need* to eat - the tendency is to push it as far as you can go, which can be dangerous.

And people are right when they say, the weight comes right back on when you start eating again. You really do go into starvation mode. However you're still eating every day which is good. Maybe just don't be so extreme about it. Sure, cut down your portions but don't be ridiculous about it.

I did this a few years ago, and I certainly was not anorexic. So I guess it comes down to how obsessed you are about it (although the more you do it, the easier it is to become obsessed!). The other thing people don't talk about is how good it feels. The mental clarity and energy; you feel amazing and in control of everything. Obviously this feeling won't last forever if you really starve yourself of energy.

But all in all, it genuinely is better to be patient and lose weight slowly - what you're doing could be just too extreme to sustain itself.

So I'm just saying be careful, as it does sound like it could be a problem for you.
But you're not necessarily suddenly 'anorexic'. I think that comes down to what's in your head.

It's not healthy at all. It's not normal.
If you continue it will get worse, and it's not going to be what you expect it to be.
If you start starving yourself, you will destroy your life in all aspects. That means hurting family, close friends, your work ethic, and yourself.. The most important person.

Starving yourself sounds appetizing (excuse the pun) but in all reality it destroys you. Who you are and what your original goal was in the first place will be buried and smothered by all the other problems that were created by the eating disorder.

You will forever regret starving yourself in the first place.. And that's not a burden you want to carry for the rest of your life.

    Good luck OP.

Usually I will eat breakfast and then skip lunch and eat a big dinner. I have slow metabolism so it doesn't affect me. Sure I do feel hungry sometimes in between breakfast and dinner but it keeps me awake and alert.

Even if you are actually overweight, it doesn't sound like you're approaching this in a healthy way.

If you starve yourself your body will go into starvation mode. Malnutrition causes bone and tooth deterioration.

I knew a woman in her mid 40's who had Anorexia Nervosa and Bulimia in her teens and early twenties and she told me she had developed Osteoporosis as a result of her eating disorders. Her teeth also look like crap and she has very poor skin elasticity so there is a crepiness to her skin texture especially around her neck. Although she no longer has a full blown eating disorder she's always on a diet and working out but she only does cardio and no strength training and as a result she's quite a frail person. She thinks she looks good, like some sort of Cougar but the truth is that people laugh and make fun of her behind her back. It's not a good look and is quite sad really. Bless her poor delusional heart!

So is that what you want for yourself?

Actually starving yourself only makes your body go into fat conservation mode, so your body will actually try to store more fat. If you eat small meals regularly, your body won't try to conserve so much fat.

  • Is common sense dead?

What could POSSIBLY be healthy about starving your body of the vital nutrients and energy it needs to survive? We eat for a reason, and you need calories especially if you are burning many of them. Come on now, your lack of basic bodily knowledge makes me sad.
